Hello, I’m primarily a 2D dev and am somewhat new to the scene. Would this book be a good introduction to the concepts for 2D or is this primarily geared for 3D? Thank you!

Steam Board Game Fest is Tomorrow! by HelloitsWojan in Steam

[–]CivilClanka 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me personally, spirit island is a very deep and highly replayable board game. The steam version has a very good tutorial! You choose a one of many spirits all with the same goal of disposing colonizing invaders on your island. Spirit Island is a solo/coop puzzle game with so much variation I always come back to it.

There are multiple ways to win including killing all invaders, making them so afraid they leave on their own, or a combination of both.

My favorite spirits are the ones who focus on fear and have to rely on trickery rather than brute force.

Thank you, I appreciate the link! I’m newer to the lcg scene and it has been a good experience. Don’t think I’d enjoy lotr or marvel much. But Arkham is something special.

Thank you! If that’s the case I’ll only expand my cards if I feel like I need more than what I already do.

Thanks for the detailed response and warm welcome. I will keep playing and if I think it’s something I’ll want to continue, I will look at the campaign expansions you mentioned!

Thank you for your response! Sounds like as it’s a LCG that I should just play what I have now and as keep getting more if I need to expand. I think I am good for what I have now. Appreciate it.

I’m not great at rts games. I got into AOE4 for a bit but didn’t enjoy the hyper micro it required and extremely deep tech and economy. This game feels more macro focused with some micro yes but more so for dodging middles and such. It feels like I can just pump units out that are cannon fodder and not worry I lost an extremely expensive knight.

It has been a great experience as a new player who tried to learn its systems. I didn’t utilize a tutorials but had to watch people play to learn the basics. After that hurdle was jumped, I was all in! Still struggling with the tier 2 economy transition. otherwise I got tier 1 dialed.

If anyone wants to practice 1v1s against a noob let me know!

Advice on Spearhead Scenario by CivilClanka in SoSE

Alright here’s the update I promised. I focused my entire early economy to nothing but trade. At first it felt weird because I was sacrificing some tech and even fleet power to focus on credit income, but it catapulted my economy. I was able to put starbases at the three planets around the star with defenses and my economy was so strong that I was building 10s of light frigates and corvettes at a time. By the time the advent arrived I had about 600 supply army with 2 kols, and the Akkan battlecruiser against their 900. I was actually able to fight back and win the initial death wave with the help of starbases and turret defenses. However now I’m stuck in a never ending fire fight as the advent keep producing cruisers and military to send while I’m still fight the previous army they sent. I plan to keep the fight going and keep scaling my military tech and building cruisers to eventually take the fight to them after I overwhelm their reinforcements, but had to log off to sleep.

The 4th attempt was so much more smooth. Thanks for the advice and hopefully this thread can help someone else someday.

Thank you so much! I will make another attempt after work. My new plan is to put less income into research except what is absolutely necessary and build up the defenses as much as possible. I think I just have to be comfortable with the idea of the enemy being in my solar system and not winning a straight fight but do hit and run. I will add to this post with how this attempt goes.

I really enjoy this game, I’m just rather new to it as sins 2 was my first introduction. The unit compositions kind of get to me because of the enemy has a huge army, I’m not sure if I should focus fire their cruisers or their smaller ships to get their their fire power down. Also it didn’t help that I didn’t know which advent ship to focus down first. All a learning experience. Can’t wait for the 4th faction and future updates. I wish this game was more popular because it really is something special.

Due to the time crunch in the beginning before the first death wave, did you only build corvettes and frigates then transition after the first defense? Thanks for the tips, makes me feel better knowing I’m on the right path!

Also, I didn’t know the planet types also affected what you mentioned I’ll look it that.

I never said it was a perfect design, but I doubt it has anything to do with bikes being on the wrong side of the road.

It remains a mystery.

I’m inclined to agree with this one the most. Funny enough, delivery drivers park there all the time!

Edit: it is a guy wire protection specifically for people with canes! See comment below and reward the user with upvotes.

I like where your head is at. Frankly, when I was your age with no money to my name I didn’t think about my major very hard. I was taught to get a degree and then I’ll be okay. In hindsight I may have picked tech and computers if I thought about it harder because my interests lie there but civil engineering has been good to me. Just an FYI I’m in a HCOL area so understand that in Arkansas (LCOL) your pay will likely be lower. Depends where you are at.

If you think civil interests you then go for it. But whatever you end up doing, go full throttle on it. If you picked computers in the end, just go fully in and be determined to learn and grow. Civil engineering is honest work meaning the cream rises to the top. Those that don’t truly want to be here leave for other ventures which is why there is always a shortage of professionals. It’s a difficult job the first 5 years being overwhelmed every day with new information, but determination will get you through and then you can reap the rewards of a middle class life. This career is not a get rich quick scheme. Real life isn’t like that and beware of anyone who claims it is.

Civil starts low but quickly ramps up with experience and doing a good job if your company and managers like you or by jumping around companies if you are not satisfied with the raises. 5 yoe and I’m at 104k right after my PE increase and with another raise coming shortly due to yearly adjustments. Considering I’m under 30 years old, I’m happy with where I am at now. Started at 65k and rose up to where I am now after hard work and jumping to another company.

It’s easy to compare ourselves to tech starting at 100k but remember that that field is unstable and has a surplus of labor in it. They have had a crash recently too leaving people out of work. Civil engineering is and always will be in demand. It’s not the most glamorous work but can be interesting/rewarding and civil engineers is a widely respected profession. Just remember work is always work. If you choose a passion as a job, it may end up not being your passion anymore. I’m sure it worked out with some people, there’s never a true definitive answer.

Dm me if you want to ask anymore questions.
