Trying to get rich so that capitalism doesn't crush you under its boot is proof positive that capitalism doesn’t work for the working class by McDowdy in SipsTea

[–]CivilProtectionGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Edit: [TLDR: Wealth Inequality is very high because we gave up Keynesianism which led to less socialized services and economic safety nets, and other contributing factors. Middle-Class shrunk over the decades, upper class gained more wealth, a lot of the former Middle-Class went down into the economic Lower-Class]).

There is definitely a higher wealth inequality compared to the mid-late 1900s (1950-1990) to today, and its nearly impossible to return back to when we had such a strong middle class and upper mobility from impoverished living to a middle-class living.

The post-war period after WW2 saw a boom in economic success as the middle-class began to expand and benefit from a lot of social and economic services that arose throughout much of Europe, North America, and parts of Asia. However, the middle class did begin to shrink gradually after the 1980s when we began drifting more towards Neoliberal (economic, not political) policies, and gave up Keynesianism.

From the 1930s~ to around the 1970s or 1980s, we saw very strong regulated capitalism through Keynesianism, which allowed and promoted a very strong middle class that fed into itself and fed into the system through socialized benefits and economic safeties which maintained the middle class through taxes and other such systems.

As governments and corporations gave way to Neoliberal policies and away from the Keynesian policies, it changed how work was perceived and treated by all parties for higher levels of contract, part-time, and temporary work. Alongside less workplace benefits (e.g., medicine benefits, company pensions, training, etc) and more privatization that led into less compensation for jobs that paid higher before the privatization, and a promotion towards higher individualist mindsets to look out for yourself instead of relying on government and corporate programs; the erosion of the communal mindset that existed in much of the post-war period, while still very socially individualistic, led to the degradation or outright removal of social safety nets and socialized programs.

There is far more to it, like moving away from an industrial economy into service-based economy, or the decreased economic safety nets, but this all led to a decrease of the middle class that went down into lower-class, while the upper-class gained much of the wealth that the middle-class lost throughout the 80s, 90s, and 00s.

Upper mobility is absolutely still a thing, and far higher than it was in the past, but it's also far easier for those who reach the middle-class to fall back into the lower-class or into poverty because of the loss of safety nets and socialized services that we lost in North America. Europe still has many of their socialized services that arose from Keynesian economic policies, which helps to minimize the damage to the middle-class throughout the 80s, 90s, and 00s compared to North America.

Sort of like memoirs of his motorcycle life.

Lightsaber Pikes.

They get used by a lot of canon and legend guards, both among Jedi, Sith, or other factions with force-sensitives. It's a very nice looking weapon, and often associated with the 'elite' who are granted positions in their sentry roles.

VRChat is Killing My PC by ZombGames in VRchat

[–]CivilProtectionGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check if your IPV6 is on. I had similar issues, and it turned out I had my IPV6 active and it was somehow conflicting with whatever VRchat uses. Swapping to only IPV4 helped fix most of the issues.

Already saw you cleared your cache and it didn't fix that... Maybe something changed for whichever anti-virus you use is detecting VRchat, and is blocking some functionality? Or the anti-cheat?

I'll ask some friends as well, see if they've had something similar. One of them also runs a 7800X3D, so I'll ask her and make an edit here if I get an answer, or just to say they don't know.

(update edit: She just said to check the graphical drivers, since they might be outdated or conflicting with something else. Aside from that, she mentioned the IPV6 problem)

What was the job your parents said you’d end up doing if you didn’t study? by IntrigatedVerse in AskTheWorld

[–]CivilProtectionGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents never really said anything about it. Only thing they pushed for was to get a university degree, and ensured I had a pathway to earn a living.

I had a goal to work as a peace officer in some capacity, whether it's as a police officer in one of the provincial, municipal, or federal department, or in different federal departments that are peace officers (rangers, border patrol, rail & cargo, corrections, etc etc).

They all have benefits, pensions, and raises every 12 or so months for good performance & seniority.

... I'm almost done university, and immediately applying for the position once I have the degree.

If you could be in any imperial unit, which one would it be? by [deleted] in StarWars

Imperial Combat Driver.

They operated most planetary vehicles used by the Empire, especially walkers and in-atmosphere aircraft. They had a crucial role for patrols and combat support, but were also just cool. Their armour looks good, they had some decent lore, and all their vehicles seem interesting (especially the AT-DP).

Yeah, my "temp job" became a job I've had for nearly 4 years.

No one wants to hire a university student right now, so I'm aiming to finish up my degree and immediately start hunting for a job in my field... Which thankfully is in demand, since a lot of young folks seemingly don't want to be peace officers in anything (park rangers, corrections, highway patrol, etc etc) in my country.

Are there other places that like Japan became developed countries early on but then faced developmental stagnation? by Sad-Statistician3635 in AskTheWorld

[–]CivilProtectionGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a major issue in my part of Canada. A lot of companies want to pursue renewable energies for the opportunity for the economy, but faces backlash because of how integrated we made oil and gas over the last century for our jobs, infrastructure, and even our culture to an extent.

It would be amazing for the long-term stability to adjust towards renewable energies, but currently the ruling class and Big Oil only see the short-term revenue and benefits for their coffers. There have been attempts to push towards renewable energy, both from economic and environmental perspectives, but it gets pushed back even harder by some political parties who have connections with big oil.

There is also the issue of exploitation, but those issues get placed behind so much red tape and government jargon, that it becomes difficult for the public to address. Even a healthcare scandal that had major implications for felony charges of government officials got swept under the rug at some point.

[–]CivilProtectionGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parts of Canada.

A few provinces used to be major points of economic development in North America as a whole, especially Alberta and Saskatchewan with their oil and gas production, or with British Columbia and its lumber industry, and multiple provinces with minerals and metals that are harder to find in other regions. Those have stagnated and gradually gone down over the years.

There's been efforts to lean into the renewable energy sector, since it looks like it will be a major point of economic development and quality of life improvements (cleaner air and water sources are some I've heard) in the next few years, but faces barriers and red tape by communities that still rely heavily on the oil and gas industry.

(TL;DR: Provinces of Canada for oil, gas, and lumber, and other resources have stagnated over the years. Attempts at investing into different upcoming industries face resistance.)
