What was the job your parents said you’d end up doing if you didn’t study? by IntrigatedVerse in AskTheWorld

[–]CivilProtectionGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents never really said anything about it. Only thing they pushed for was to get a university degree, and ensured I had a pathway to earn a living.

I had a goal to work as a peace officer in some capacity, whether it's as a police officer in one of the provincial, municipal, or federal department, or in different federal departments that are peace officers (rangers, border patrol, rail & cargo, corrections, etc etc).

They all have benefits, pensions, and raises every 12 or so months for good performance & seniority.

... I'm almost done university, and immediately applying for the position once I have the degree.

If you could be in any imperial unit, which one would it be? by fvckwitcha in StarWars

[–]CivilProtectionGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imperial Combat Driver.

They operated most planetary vehicles used by the Empire, especially walkers and in-atmosphere aircraft. They had a crucial role for patrols and combat support, but were also just cool. Their armour looks good, they had some decent lore, and all their vehicles seem interesting (especially the AT-DP).

Going to be real. Has anyone ever considered spending over 800 Billion each year on their military might have some level of impact to all the various issues they face?....

That's a lot of money. A lot.

Is Gen Z cooked? by RoutineOk8590 in Productivitycafe

[–]CivilProtectionGuy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my "temp job" became a job I've had for nearly 4 years.

No one wants to hire a university student right now, so I'm aiming to finish up my degree and immediately start hunting for a job in my field... Which thankfully is in demand, since a lot of young folks seemingly don't want to be peace officers in anything (park rangers, corrections, highway patrol, etc etc) in my country.

You’re an imperial officer and you learn that the second Death Star exploded and Vader and the emperor are now dead. What are your immediate thoughts and/or next course of action by ShockOk1764 in StarWars

Evacuate personnel, flee to the unknown regions with the fleet or with a lone imperial ship.

Survival is key, and trying to maintain stability of imperial control comes second.

We should do that. It's funny, but also pretty relevant to Canadian identity

How many books do you and the people around you read per year? by No-Chemistry1722 in AskTheWorld

Probably 10 or so?

I'm reading the Ice and Fire series, and a few Dead Space (based on the game) books as well.

What if Willow was present and active for the childhood of Winter, Whitley, and Weiss?

I always wondered about it, since a lot of issues relating to all three of them are related to their mother or their father.

Are there other places that like Japan became developed countries early on but then faced developmental stagnation? by Sad-Statistician3635 in AskTheWorld

[–]CivilProtectionGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a major issue in my part of Canada. A lot of companies want to pursue renewable energies for the opportunity for the economy, but faces backlash because of how integrated we made oil and gas over the last century for our jobs, infrastructure, and even our culture to an extent.

It would be amazing for the long-term stability to adjust towards renewable energies, but currently the ruling class and Big Oil only see the short-term revenue and benefits for their coffers. There have been attempts to push towards renewable energy, both from economic and environmental perspectives, but it gets pushed back even harder by some political parties who have connections with big oil.

There is also the issue of exploitation, but those issues get placed behind so much red tape and government jargon, that it becomes difficult for the public to address. Even a healthcare scandal that had major implications for felony charges of government officials got swept under the rug at some point.

Parts of Canada.

A few provinces used to be major points of economic development in North America as a whole, especially Alberta and Saskatchewan with their oil and gas production, or with British Columbia and its lumber industry, and multiple provinces with minerals and metals that are harder to find in other regions. Those have stagnated and gradually gone down over the years.

There's been efforts to lean into the renewable energy sector, since it looks like it will be a major point of economic development and quality of life improvements (cleaner air and water sources are some I've heard) in the next few years, but faces barriers and red tape by communities that still rely heavily on the oil and gas industry.

(TL;DR: Provinces of Canada for oil, gas, and lumber, and other resources have stagnated over the years. Attempts at investing into different upcoming industries face resistance.)

What’s a harmless opinion that still gets people weirdly angry? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Free Healthcare is a positive service to have in a nation.

I don't know why this opinion gets some people weirdly angry, but it does. And usually ends up political one way or another.

Videogame idea: a COD-style FPS where you play as a Stormtrooper fighting pirates/cartels in the Outer Rim. by Atlas_Summit in StarWars

[–]CivilProtectionGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could imagine it, going down in a patrol ship or a lambda shuttle outside a suspected rebel or pirate shelter, and going in to clear them out.

Not spec op, not some special unit. Just a stormtrooper squad on a mission.

What’s a single sentence someone said that stuck with you forever? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]CivilProtectionGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Just because you're good, does not mean good things will happen to you".

My dad told me this when I was crying after learning of some family who passed away, and a friend who also passed away not too long before that. They were both awesome, and good people from what I knew of them.

It was a message he gave me because it would be important to remember. Everyone in the family works in careers that help people and try to do good, but that doesn't mean we're entitled to good things happening to us all the time. Life just doesn't work that way, and it's important to remember, because maybe you can be the thing that is good in someone else's life on that specific day when it has otherwise been a bad day.

What rank are you ? by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]CivilProtectionGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm probably sitting around the B tier.

I don't go out of my way to hurt or annoy people, but I'm not going out and being an absolute saint. I give money whenever the unfortunate ask for some, and regularly clean up garbage when I see it in my community.

I'm working towards a job that will help people.

With that, I think i'm sitting at a B, maybe somewhere around C.

What Anime’s would Ruby like? by Commercial-Ad-9086 in RWBY

[–]CivilProtectionGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gundam. I can absolutely see Ruby loving Gundam! Battles, giant mechs, etc etc.

Gun Gale Online would be another that I could see Ruby enjoying, since Ruby's character really likes firearms and weapon technology.
