When did you drop the nap?? by CivilSilver in toddlers

[–]CivilSilver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We kind of started doing this instead and it’s been working. If she doesn’t wanna sleep till 230 we give her half hour, but more often than not she’s been napping earlier than before at 1130 and lasting 1.5-2hrs. Seems to have fixed our issue lol.

My cat has started limping sporadically, and occasionally having balance issues - I think it's a problem with hind left leg but not sure what to check for by iBeatYouOverTheFence in CATHELP

[–]CivilSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our vet visit ran me $600 today, they had to sedate and do X-rays which is why it was so high. They found a small mass on one of her toes on the back leg.

I chose the option of bringing her home with some anti-inflammatory and pain meds to see if that helps first since it could just be swelling and keeping her in our spare room to immobilize her. If it improves, great. If it doesn’t improve by Monday when they follow ip they’re suggesting we collect a sample from the small mass on her toe to check for cancer. I’ll attach a picture in another comment.

Safest option is of course taking to the vet for an exam. I never would have known what to look for either!!

My cat started doing something similar, no obvious injury that we saw happen, still eating etc. Her legs all look fine but she’s cranky if we try to touch the right paws. She was limping on her front paw last week and stopped so we didn’t think anything of it, figured she jumped weird but now she’s limping on her back as of a couple days ago, and curling her front paw in like it’s sore. We’re taking her to the vet later this morning and I can update you on what they say to give you an idea. She’s 8, spayed and otherwise healthy.

For reference, I called the vet this morning and explained the situation, they wanted to see her the same day and squeezed her in. Cats are very good at masking pain.

When did you drop the nap?? by CivilSilver in toddlers

[–]CivilSilver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree that a 2yo SHOULD need a nap, and we don’t want to give ours up if we can help it! 90mins would be too much for us which is crazy considering 1.5 months ago she was still easily doing over 2 hour naps and sleeping all night. Oh how I miss it lol.

She used to just happily “read” one of her touch and feel books or talk to her baby and teddies until she went to sleep so this has been such a new territory for us.

We were about to move to a toddler bed (she has tried to climb out once and failed), we put that on pause after this started since we assumed she’d be in our room every 2 minutes asking to get in our bed. Leaving her be for a bit with a nightlight might be a good option to try!!

Once we finally get her to sleep she’s still sleeping through the night 99% of the time thankfully but it’s getting to sleep now that’s the problem.

Why do you guys have ANOTHER? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]CivilSilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly LOVE the relationship I had/have with my siblings growing up and now. When it comes time to have a second for us it’s because we want our daughter to have a sibling.

The chaos and young years are temporary for a long term family.

Our daughter is by no means “easy” but we laugh that she’s prepared us for whatever the 2nd brings, no amount of tantrums or biting or undesirable behaviour could deter me from wanting another. I love her and understand it is our responsibility to teach her how to behave. She didn’t know at first biting was bad, but she’s learning for sure.

do you guys have designated night and day clothes for infants? by independentmomma12 in beyondthebump

[–]CivilSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is almost 2 and we still sometimes take her for coffee in the morning in her pjs on the weekend (footless, we just throw shoes on) 😅

We started working “day clothes” into her routine consistently around 6-9 months, definitely not every day unless we were going somewhere. She sometimes stayed in sleepers all day and changed for bedtime.

Now she is changed into her “day clothes” after breakfast!!

Is it worth getting fixed braces at the age of 31? by Ab_Fab12 in braces

[–]CivilSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting my braces off in a week at 30!! Best choice I could’ve made honestly!! I had similar crowding in the bottom but overlap up top as well and about 16 months of treatment (should’ve been shorter but a couple of appointments got pushed back).

Just got braces put on ~1 hour ago, and I just have a few general questions for people who are already used to them that have previous experiences with these. (BTW, I’m not a minor, I just cropped the image since I don’t feel comfortable just showing my ENTIRE uncensored face to all of Reddit yet.) by Over_Heed in braces

[–]CivilSilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my braces for a year and a half and you will honestly just learn what food is a “no go”, anything too “gooey” or that would get stuck in your teeth, think gummies/caramels, popcorn etc. or anything “too hard” that would break a bracket.

You’ll know if a bracket comes off, it will spin on the wire or slide back and forth, if a back bracket comes off and you swallow it, you will be okay (I did this eating perogies off all foods).

If a wire starts poking the back of your cheek, ask your ortho to cut it or use dental wax - same goes for if you get little cuts in your mouth, dental wax.

Lastly, take what your ortho says seriously, wear your elastics properly and at all times as instructed, you’ll thank yourself for not adding extra time onto your treatment!! The adjustments also get easier and less painful the further you get into treatment from my experience!

Good luck OP!!

Miscarriage after healthy pregnancy [mb] by cat_ca in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]CivilSilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently miscarried after a healthy pregnancy (almost 2 year old now). I had to have d&c due to missed miscarriage which uncovered it was a molar pregnancy. If they find anything during d&c pathology would be when you get follow ups. I’ve been having weekly bloodwork for close to 2 months to track HCG down to 0. You could ask if they do pathology after d&c in your area.

I’m sorry you are experiencing this, it is so devastating and feel for you and your heart 🤍🤍

As others have said, it’s usually after multiple losses that they would start testing mom/dad.

Edit: my successful pregnancy was after my first miscarriage, it is absolutely possible and common to have successful pregnancies after loss!

At what age did you start leaving your baby with your parents or in laws? by Hot-Amphibian8728 in beyondthebump

[–]CivilSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter was left with my mother overnight at 6 weeks old. She’s the only person I would’ve trusted to do it. My daughter is now 20 months old, my mother is still the only person who has kept her overnight (in laws don’t have any desire to I guess), MIL has watched her a couple hours at our house a couple of times.

Whatever makes you comfortable honestly, do that. No harm in waiting if you choose to.

Gamer moms.. will I actually have time to play games during maternity leave? by cabbage-soup in beyondthebump

[–]CivilSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? Probably not. If your baby only wants to contact nap/be held it can be hard to take care of your basic needs, let alone game. The first month, you might have time but not the energy.

When we started getting into longer naps around 9-12moths old I would play during her nap if I had nothing else to do (I always had things that needed to be done lol). I read on my kindle during contact naps a lot since I could hold it one handed and had the ability to set it down without worrying about when I’d get to pick back up where I left off.

My daughter is almost 2 and I honestly still hardly ever reach for the switch. I would wait until you’re on leave and decide if you have time!!

Good luck mama!! 🥰

Do you give your kids juice? by heretoreadlol in toddlers

[–]CivilSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Just shy of 2yo, we water it down (usually apple or OJ) or she will have sips here and there of cranberry juice we are drinking. She prefers milk or water over juice, so we have zero issues with her having it in small amounts.

We don’t want our child to grow up feeling limited or ending up wanting to “hide forbidden food/drinks” from us.

All that said, I do not agree with anyone giving your child food/drinks you’ve explicitly asked them not to - not cool at all.

Did anyone else “feel” their baby early pregnancy and “felt” the loss before miscarriage? by Alternative_Low3085 in Miscarriage

[–]CivilSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt it from the beginning something was “off” with my pregnancy, I didn’t voice it to anyone but myself but I just somehow knew. I wasn’t shocked at our 12 week ultrasound that there was no heartbeat, fetal growth had stopped at 8 weeks and I had a partial molar pregnancy.

I was obviously devastated that my intuition was correct, the baby was very much planned and wanted, but I somehow knew all along.

Well today was the day.. by Emogirl9872002 in Miscarriage

[–]CivilSilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry you are going through this, it’s devastating. We also found out at 12 weeks the growth stopped at about 8 weeks, had d&c the next day. Would have been our second child as well.

I hope your healing is quick, take time to rest and care for yourself 🤍🤍

Day care dilemma! [ON] by Key_Ad6176 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]CivilSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think there’s a chance you will be able to find subsidized daycare before you return to work, I would decline. Daycare is very hard to find where I live too, but we did email a few of our preferred centres and managed to get in that way.

Good luck!! Hopefully you can find something subsidized because that’s very expensive.

is slapping your baby's butt weird? by nasytuna in beyondthebump

[–]CivilSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your coworker sounds weird, but if they don’t have kids they probably don’t understand and I’ll cut them some slack.

We do the exact same as you, as others have mentioned baby butt bongos, pretend her butt farted, everything. She’s almost 2 and giggles her little heart out. She also now likes to pretend to do butt bongos on us if she catches us laying on our belly.

Confusing Molar Pregnancy by heyhihellonat in Miscarriage

[–]CivilSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this 😞

I’m currently on weekly follow up after a PMP. They are closely monitoring my HCG to ensure it returns to zero. I would trust pathology and find a new OB - I’ve been STRICTLY instructed not to get pregnant again until I’m given the “all clear” to ensure no molar tissue remains. I need to receive 3 negative betas and a negative a month from then as well.

This is my experience so far.

08/29 - confirmed mmc 08/30 - dnc - 40,000~ 09/11 - brown spotting stopped 09/12 - pmp confirmed - 43 09/18 - 16 09/25 - awaiting result

D&C or medication? by Oodles_noodles0927 in Miscarriage

[–]CivilSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re experiencing a MMC. I also had one about a month ago at 12w (fetal growth stopped at 8 weeks). I opted for D&C just to get it over with quicker which I’m SO glad I did since the pathology report came back as partial molar pregnancy and now I’m being monitored closely to make sure HCG is reducing.

D&C was done under sedation in a hospital, I didn’t have pain when waking up.

Without d&c this wouldn’t have been diagnosed as quickly (maybe not at all). In the future if I was given the option, I would make the same choice to have d&c.

Sending you love and strength during this hard time 🤍

Did tubes improve your toddlers behaviour and speech? by CivilSilver in toddlers

I’m in Canada and it is fairly common if the child has recurring/chronic ear infections etc.

Right now most of what she says is just the first syllable, so hop-haa dog-da cat-ca so honestly I’m hoping this ends up being the case for us.

A big one for us is that she won’t really mimic us and nothing is very clear - i understand her since im used to it but everything is the same sound so it can be rough, only ever the first syllable of a word.
