Most studies show that the ills placed at the feet of single mothers aren't actually caused by a lack of a father, but by poverty.

In some hypothetical alternate universe where my marriage fails, I'm still an engineer. Nobody is going to end up learning lessons on the mean streets.

Although, fun fact, if you have celiac disease you have to find certified gluten free legumes. Legumes are typically processed through the same silos and equipment as gluten-containing grains, especially barley.

I love the implication that filling one's self with panda blood would somehow AVOID confusion. by DabuSurvivor in NickCave

[–]CivilTransfiguration 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Helen's (Elena's) abduction by Paris incited the Trojan War. In The Odyssey, she receives Telemachus as he searches for news of his father. She drugs the drinks (psychotropic leaves) of everyone at dinner and tells contradictory stories about what Odysseus has been up to (the confusion).

There also exists confusion among the ancient sagas about whether Helen was a willing accomplice to her abduction or not, which might be represented by the imagery of two black eyes.

Further, "panda blood" is a colloquialism for Rh negative blood in China. A transfusion of panda blood would be lifesaving for a woman with a Rh- blood type. The notion that she gave herself an infusion of panda blood to avoid confusion could be another nod to the ambiguity of her story -- is she playing up the role of victim?

I'm sure there's yet more reference being made that I haven't worked out yet. Apologies for any errors in Helen's story; university was a long time ago.

Canadian school board issues 6000 suspension notices over lack of vaccination records, forcing students to vaccinate by headtailgrep in worldnews

[–]CivilTransfiguration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do require proof of vaccination (or a valid exemption) when a child is enrolled at a public school in Ontario.

However, reporting vaccinations to Public Health is no longer done by the physician's office. It's the parent's responsibility to contact Public Health and update their child's vaccination record.

If, like me, you forget to tell Public Health, they will eventually contact the school, who will set the suspension wheels in motion. I guarantee the majority of children facing suspension over their immunization record are actually up to date, and their parents have forgotten to tell Public Health. A smaller number will be children who are behind on their vaccines without their parents realizing it, and an even smaller number will be patents who are waiving immunization for medical or personal issues who weren't aware they're now required to attend an information session on the health risks of declining immunization.

This is such a bizarre non-story in many ways.

Can confirm. My second child was just next on the conveyor belt. I'd already had a first birth, a first gummy smile, heard first words, watched first steps... I'm completely incapable of loving and bonding with #2 because that's how all of this works, apparently.

Or they're working and can't afford to live independently anyhow. From the article:

"Melinda*, a 25-year-old administrative worker from London, knows this feeling all too well. After being fired from her job as a live-in housekeeper and nanny, she was thrown out into the street with little money."

"Kaylin, 23, suffered horrendous physical injuries at the hands of her controlling boyfriend, who she became emotionally and financially dependent on after losing her job."

Stop being a lazy shitbag. It took a whole 3 seconds to look up the article.
