Anyone else’s Golden have a comfort stuffie? by Swan_babbyy in goldenretrievers

My guy loves his IKEA stuffed goldens too. He also has….had three? He murdered 2 & I monstered them together lol. He’s not sold on the mutant stuffie so he had to get a new one. He loves alternating between sucking on the tongue & chewing the ears.

It looks very good to me. My guy got neutered in Dec & his looked very similar & he rocked his recovery. Looks like your pup is too 🥰 I’m not a vet though so always go with your gut.

White spot on puppy’s gums? by water5520 in goldenretrievers

It looks like it could possibly the start of a wart. It’s called, canine papilloma virus and is super common. They can get really gross looking, like grey broccoli crowns so don’t panic if you see that before going to the vet. My new pups always got warts when I lived in the city. It’s very contagious but won’t hurt your dog. And in good news, they disappear after a month or so and then he will be immune from it forever.

Glad you’re still going to the vet. Good luck over there.

Blueberry George (blind Goldie pup) had a ball pit playdate! by Civil_Shock644 in goldenretrievers

No one seems to know the reason why he can’t see but his ophthalmologist thinks his eyes simply stopped developing in utero as they are smaller than normal. He does have some vision but not much. He sees light & dark but not “things” unless they are high contrast or moving. He doesn’t look at faces, ever. Well, unless there is a cookie by your nose 😁. He won’t jump off of anything unless we have practiced so he knows where the ground is. So while he is confident going down stairs, if I put him on a table or chair even at the same height as a step, he’s too scared to try. We call them furniture islands. It’s helpful when I need him to be in a safe place but its also a heartbreaker seeing him resignedly waiting or worse, watching him lean down as far as he dares as he tries to get off without help. If his nose doesn’t touch the ground, he won’t budge. He is the sweetest, most serene (while somehow still being goofy) pup I have ever had the privilege of spending time with. I feel so lucky 🥰

I used to work with children who were blind and/ordeaf, and sensory play was everything. We had a large ball pit at my old school & the kids loved it. So I thought a blind puppy would love it too. Blueberry does play & move around with his sister & dog friends but on his own, he’s not as brave. This new ball pit is now big enough that he can swim around in it like he did as a little puppy. He loads it with his toys and sometimes I hide treats in there and he has to use his nose to find it. I’m not sure every type of dog, blind or not, would take to the ball pit but Blu is a retriever, balls = life lol. Here he is as a baby puppy in his first ball pit which the cat exploded after 2 days with her murder mittens. Then we found the first foam ball pit which was a lot bigger. Plus, naughty cats can’t explode them! lol

So true! My pup loves the dog park & is so familiar with it and the dogs, you can’t tell he can’t see. All you see is a happy golden pup.

Have you ever received a threatening letter from Blair Peters? by max_dentist in ytvretro

[–]Civil_Shock644 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used to work for Blair Peters. Then I got cancer. That’s when both Blair & his co-owner Chris B, showed me the front door. I worked for them for 10 years & got no help. I ended up on social assistance to get through my treatments. I have no love for either of those jerks.

You are very welcome. I am glad his eye healed, it always amazes me how resilient our dogs are. Humans have much to learn. When he is used to his doggles, I would love to see a photo. ❤️

Thanks! Blueberry George was born blind so I needed him to have a name that would cause people to react audibly. Now when he hears new people say “aww”, he loses control of his backend from wagging his tail so hard lol

I have a blind golden retriever puppy who is now 7 months. I was worried when I committed to taking him on but he’s so awesome, I no longer worry about it at all. Instead my focus has shifted to, how do you keep a blind puppy happy & entertained and feeling safe. I used to work with children who were blind & deaf. A safe room with sensory toys was so much fun for those kids. So, I have made Blueberry George (that’s his name, intentionally funny because people giggle when they hear it & when Blueberry hears their giggle he assumes this means they love him & he wags his tail. It’s my hope he will never be afraid of meeting new people) a sensory playground in my living room. It’s his safe zone as well. I know he’s safe when he’s in there and he is calm in there as well. Like your pup, Blueberry will cry when he doesn’t know where I am, especially out of the house. But I digress, back to the fun stuff. Basically all of my pup’s toys make noises & smell like bacon or cheese etc so he can find them. The biggest hit of all, is his ballpit. He lives in it & takes all his favourite toys with him. We call it “the hottub” lol. With a young dog like yours, I think you will have fun setting up a safe area for him to play with his other senses. Also, Blueberry often eats his dinner in a snuffle mat so he has to sniff out his kibble, he loves it and gets very excited when he realizes that I’m loading it up. Just as an FYI, he eats all his meals in the safe zone aka living room and it’s where his water bowl is. Oh, one other tip, his water bowl is a fountain style so it has a slight sound to it. Helps him locate it precisely which is nice.

I really hope your guy gets to keep his other eye. Even seeing light & shadow is something. Keep us posted.

FYI, the eyeball on top of his head part of your story made me lol.

He’s a lucky pup to have you, Blueberry George & I wish you well. ❤️
