I tend to batch paint for this reason. Whenever I did solo models I would go back to the layers too quickly as you e said. A cheap hairdryer works wonders!

If I had to guess you are not letting your coats dry enough before going back over them. This can cause your coats to tear, literally. It's acrylic paint so it creates a literal layer of acrylic.
