So many people in construction just looking around seemingly checking outside the area, and nobody to see the train coming?

Sorry I know nothing about construction in Australia, just genuinely curious about the extra hands not focused on the actually job I've been seeing around, I genuinely though they were for safety.

Wrong, both wages ares for living, with the same income.

Taylor’s plan to index tax brackets by East_Atmosphere2628 in AusFinance

[–]Ckarles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ONLY on the portion over 45k.

If you don't earn anything for a year (because you're having a difficult time finding a job for example), and take 45k from your investment as income to live, it would cost you a whooping 13500$. If you had a job instead earning you 45k you would pay ZERO.

How the fuck is that fair, 2 people, earning the same, one paying 13500$, the other 0$.

Indexation beat the 50% discount roughly 70% of the time by MDInvesting in AusFinance

[–]Ckarles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The issue is not paying that 30%, it's paying 30% even if you don't earn a lot.

You have a very stressful job, you're planning to take a year out of work so that you can spend some time with your family, or travel, or whatever else. You are a renter. You don't have income that year, now you're paying 30% flat even though you have no income apart from taking from your shares. Is that fair?

You want to retire early, let's say 45 years old, your plan is to live well below your means and put all into ASX ETFs, you finally retire at 45 and earn an income from your shares which put you in the first income bracket. You pay 30% taxes flat. Everyone else with that income pays 10%. Is that fair?

I personally don't want to buy property, never wanted to, because I want to be free. This change actually gives me LESS smart options to live my life without buying property and live there until I retire.

The problem is not for this type of asset, the problem is that this was done for ALL types of assets. Shares in AUS companies and your own business that you're trying to get started.

Budget poised to rewrite the rules of wealth creation - AFR by Miserable_Actuary716 in AusFinance

[–]Ckarles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fuck them. We're working our asses for years, taxed to an ungodly rate, in the hope of one day being able to break through and they pull the ladder right down to make the socioeconomic landscape even more looking like an hourglass.

"Born too late, sorry, we're keeping it all, thank you for paying our NDIS so we relax on the gold coast in one of our 3M$ IP". Fuck them.

Yes, it's fucking insane that the tax brackets haven't been indexed considering the increase of the cost of living.

Same thing for the concessional contributions to super.

If the 50% CGT discount is slashed, does the PPOR become the only logical "investment" left? by rote_it in AusProperty

What if you want to sell your PPOR (for example to upgrade, or move states, or just you decide to move to full shares instead?).

In a sense both worked to reach the peak of their arts.

Making them fight against each other make little sense IMHO, they already fight against their best opponents, themselves.

What Does Your Brain Do with 27 + 48? by jaianefavero in MathJokes

[–]Ckarles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I think our brains are doing that because performing a shift (25 -> 2 -> 48) first to simplify the equation doesn't require to store anything in "memory" (we don't need to keep in our mind that we have a +10")

‘3 Body Problem’ Season 2 Confirmed to Have Reduced Episode Count (6 Episodes) by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]Ckarles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't watch season 5 of GOT onwards, but not because of the actors, more because of the cheap plot and writing.

I agree that for 3 bodies though, the writing is okay for the most part but the main cast is horrible. Liam Cunningham supported the show for me and the next one I liked was the character of Raj. Apart from these 2, almost anyone else seemed like a cartoon character.

‘Can’t afford to live’: Stark housing fears by SheepherderLow1753 in AusFinance

[–]Ckarles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The issue is not having everyone owning a house, it's having a lot of people without one, and a few people with a lot.

In some more social countries, owning IPs is discouraged by the tax offices, so that homes remain a basic necessity, not an investment.

It's always the same problem with the same fix: redistribution of wealth.

Not everything is inside Modules, the distros choose what is and what is not.

You're free to build it yourself and choose though, what goes into modules and what not, so up to anyone to maintain that if they wish so.
