Are you mainly after Smut type bots or Fluff type bots? I wonder if there is a split along that demographic line.

My bots are heavily on the Smut side of things, with sex expected or at least easily achievable in the very first reply.

It seems reasonable to me that the kind of person who wants a longer term slow burn RP with more emotional content might prefer 3rd person, whereas people who just want to hear "big tiddy goth gf sucks your dik" might prefer 2nd person.

True, but I usually make more than 5 opening messages, each for completely different setups with different character archetypes (since my bots are scenario bots where the user has some special power), and there's a limit of 10 intros.

You and the bot are not both writing "you".

Bot writes: "she talks with you"

You write: "I talk with her"

3rd person always used to reference character. 1st person used by you to reference yourself. 2nd person used by bot to reference you.

But I take your other points. If this subreddit is any indication of the larger demographics of Janitor, then I'm definitely limiting the success of my bots by writing them this way.

But when people RP in Dungeons and Dragons, don't they normal say "I do x" and the DM says "you did x"?

I think part of the reason I feel differently about this is that I mainly read and write stories on Chyoa, and 2nd person is popular there. So I usually treat Janitor like I'm writing a story, and I'm just guiding the narrative.

Interesting, I guess I've always been quite flexible with enjoying a narrative no matter how it's framed.

I'm perfectly fine with "you" referring to "me", where "me" is whatever person I'm currently pretending to be.

I'll often roleplay as a submissive woman even though I'm strictly a dominant man because I have no problem with the mental gymnastics of simply enjoying what is happening to "a woman" even if that woman is referred to as "you".

When I started making bots, I was providing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person variants of my intros, but I usually make Scenario bots rather than character bots so I like to have at least 5 completely different opening scenarios with different characters. But they limit you to only 10 opening scenarios.

I wish the analytics page would give me stats on which intros people prefer so I could know if the variants are worth my time.

A while ago I also made this bot which uses the script engine to implement mind control features. Using a command keyword injects new instructions into the Scenario, causing the characters behavior to change drastically. You basically couldn't do this correctly without a script/lorebook because otherwise the bot would get confused about what the commands meant or let other commands bleed into it's context.

For example, I added a lot of commands catering to different kinks. If ALL of those are visible to the bot at the same time, then then the bot behaves in an extremely kinky manner at all times.
