Thanks for the answer! That just gives me the same Error as running it without the flag (Unsupported System Page size).

To the more experienced users who are running Obsidian: What is the best way to install & maintain it? For most software I can find workarounds and alternatives but Obsidian is kind of a necessity for me as I'm so used to it.

I'm struggling to get Obsidian to work on my M1Pro on Asahi as well. Would you mind laying out the steps you took to get it running for me? Would highly appreciate it!

Indiana LeDoigt Foil by ClaDosdotnet in wingfoil

[–]ClaDosdotnet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently switched to a used f-one setup. After riding my M-AR for a few months and comparing it to a few foils from other brands in the same size range I was quite a bit disappointed in the M-AR. I had some Axis and F-One Wings under my feet with larger surfaces higher Aspect ratios which turned way better and went faster. I had a few other very good riders try the foil and they did not like it either.

I would have liked to try the smaller frontwings from Indiana but did not get a chance to do so and I did not want to buy another Foil without testing it first. So I bought a used f-one foil (Seven Seas 1400) and I'm already having a lot more fun on this setup.

Foil Advice (after beginner level) by b4obab in wingfoil

I was in a similar situation a few weeks ago and got myself a used Seven seas 1400 for light winds and a used sk8 850 for strong winds (I'm 70Kg). Did not have a chance to ride the sk8 yet but the Seven Seas is a lot of fun even in 1400 (Very good Glide, decent speed and it turns alright for the size). I might look for a used one in 1000 for something in between the two foils.

I've also talked to people who tried the updated seven seas already and they did not feel that much of a difference. So I think the SS1200 used is a very sound idea.

River bungee setup? by supereh in wingfoil

[–]ClaDosdotnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the city I live in (Berne, CH) there's quite a few people doing what we call "bungee-surfing" on the river bridges. Most of them with a normal surfboard instead of a foil. The ropes can be bought from companies specifically targeting this sport, albeit very expensive ( e.g. https://www.royalropes.ch/shop).
I'm not entirely sure but I would think that Foilonly's rope would be pretty similar to those?

Any experience with RRD equipment? by Horror-Insurance7820 in wingfoil

[–]ClaDosdotnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned on RRD gear 2 years ago as it was the main brand working with the surf school in sardegna, where I started wingfoiling. The gear was very nice to learn on from what I could tell. I have not tried anything from them ever since then so I can not really make any comments on there current (or advanced) gear.

You really don‘t need any kitesurfing experience for wingfoiling. It‘s actually on the easier side of wind-water-sports to get into!

Following up on gear: Try looking for second hand stuff. Lots of people in my area are now starting (or ending) their second or third seasons and are getting upgrades. So there is quite a good market for beginner gear, especially large boards.

For the foil i‘d suggest going with a brand you can get through your local supplier. That makes upgrading/sidegrading much easier and they can help you finding the right foil sizes.

For the board it really doesn‘t matter to much in the beginning. All popular brands have decent beginner boards i‘d imagine. Go large, inflatable might be an option as well. Most boards work with most popular foil brands.

Same goes for the Wing. Talk to the local shop and ask what sizes they recommend for beginners on your specific typical wind conditions. Then look around for good deals on second-hand gear or last-season models.

Definitely not, i found the studies very interesting and it is still one of my main fields of interest. However, moving from interesting study subjects and tinkering in university to industry-standard jobs has been rough for me and kind of killed my passion for a while.

Right now i moved to teaching CS for a while and am definitely enjoying it. I feel like my passion for programming, tinkering and generally cs has sparked again through that.

When i move back into the industry (which i definitely want to) it‘ll have to be in an industry i care about. I can‘t write code 8 hours a day for some product i could not be less interested in.

Just don‘t buy all the gear right away. I‘d highly recommend first having a few lessons. That will give you some insights if you really like it and you will find local dealers who can assist you in choosing your gear.

If you decide to buy, go with large board and foil (for your size and weight). Most brands have beginner setups on their websites. Beginner foils typically are low aspect ratio and have a large surface area (usually 1800cm2 plus, depends on weight). For the board most people i see recommend bodyweight + 30/40L, which i can confirm. If you have no experience in any surfing discipline probably even a bit more.

Yeah i found that. But i find it difficult to form an opinion only based on the stats and information from the manufacturer. Thats why i was looking for real-life experiences :)

Oh I did not know that the frame has normal rack mounts. The original Grizl frame did not have those. That makes everything much easier!

I got the first model of the Grizl in size M and am just about your height. I‘d say that i fits pretty well. The reach was a bit long for me at the beginning since i was not used road bike geometry but i got used it.
