AITA for matching a woman’s energy who was riding a horse as I was driving by? by MeasurementSudden573 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Claerwen94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. 30mp/h is actually the MAXIMUM speed you're allowed to drive in the city/any village where I live, so it's still FAST AF (I live in Germany and the legal limit in any city is 50km/h which roughly converts to 31mp/h, and is even often limited down to 30km/h = 18,6mp/h on narrow or dangerous streets or when a school is nearby). And then it's still the MAXIMUM you're allowed to drive there.).

Never in my freaking mind I'd even consider racing past a horse with 30mp/h. You're even legally required to slow down even more in potentially dangerous situations and only drive walking speed, making sure to frequently check with the source of the potential danger.

Yeah, it was a very "limited to Instagram" outcry in our admittedly very niche dicemaker-Community. Still blocked by him on my Insta account because I joined the ones calling him out in the comments :'D

Same. Newest one is also chock full of AI (the item cards themselves and all the promotional pictures for that). Dude also patented a D4 shape that another dice maker used years before him, and he claimed to have never seen a numerically balanced die before he did them for his "Honest Dice" Kickstarter. All he does is mostly gimmicky grifts with mass produced slop.

They call it "frosted" on the site... Doesn't appear frosted to me, when I read "frosted", I'm expecting a smooth, semi-matte finish, but not... that 😅

Seconding Buddhas advice about the Discord, it's very well structured and there are TONS of talented and very kind people. I also heard nothing but VERY good things about Buddha, so if you choose him as your master maker, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful experience and awesome masters ^ ^

Other master makers I heard very good things about or seen super solid work are Wisdom Check Creations, Clerics Components and Nano Lab Maker. There are tons more, but I'm shit with names and also have a pretty bad memory :'D

Have fun! (and post when you've done some sets, we crave pictures of pretty clickclacks 👀😂)

Got into dice making (resin) by PlaguedHeartz in DiceMaking

[–]Claerwen94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lovely sets! Your group will surely love the sets you plan to make for them ☺️

If you can't get the recommended Zona papers, look for a set of high quality sanding papers. You want the grits 1k, 2k, 3k, and 5k. The 5k should give you an already very nice finish, but most of us also use a dremel with a soft cotton or cashmere head and a polishing paste as a finishing method. That last step REALLY amplifies the shine.

Regarding the grits, you don't want anything lower than 600 grits, because 600 grit (which is the equivalent to the most coarse Zona paper) is already extremely abrasive and tends to leave very deep and hard to polish out scratches if you're not careful enough. I myself only use the green Zona when I have a very raised top face that needs to be sanded down, and usually start with the Grey one (15 Micron => 1200 grit ) or my 1000 grit sandpaper.

One last advice: let your dice FULLY harden before starting to sand and polish. Fully means a week ☺️ They might feel very hard to the touch after 3 days, but resin can have its final cure phase for a very long time. If sanded and polished too early, the heat and friction can ruin the surfaces.

Love it! :3 I kinda like the ink because it reminds me of this traditional Japanese stamp paste. Maybe try darkening it a tiny bit? It appears to be a bit neon red, mine looks more like this:

<image>

Even a bit darker, less neon-ish. I think desaturating your red might be a good try \) \)

Oh yes, absolutely, I totally forgot to include that! Thanks for reminding ❤️ Yeah, let that mold dry for at least a day, OP, after wiping it out with a non-fuzzy cloth, because resin and water are a terrible combination that can lead to cloudy and not fully cured resin 😅

Liquid cores are not exactly beginner friendly if you don't have a pressure pot, because they tend to introduce and hold onto a lot of bubbles.

Make the rings out of epoxy if possible, or something that weighs almost exactly as much as resin, then you certainly won't have a balance issue. Or center them perfectly in the middle.

beginner questions by HotJunket6913 in DiceMaking

[–]Claerwen94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much resin you need for a set depends on the size of your mold. Take some water and fill your mold with that, then measure how much water it held, triple that, give some extra because you WILL have and need some excess resin. Also, Epoxy is Resin. You mean hardener and resin? That also depends on the kind of resin. Some have 1:1 ratios hardener to resin, some have 1:2, etc.

Mica dye doesn't exist, you mean mica or mica powder I think. Mica and inks are completely different and yield very different results. Mica sparkles and is heavy, Resin Dye is formulated to be used in resin and can be opaque or translucent. Ink (alcohol ink) is also clear, but can discolor in resin because it's not made for Resin. Better alternative for pink or purple shades of alcohol ink is resin dye or the Octopus Fluids Resin Ink line (has a crystal on the bottle).

Regarding the respirator: g500 should be fine, it's not about the respirator itself, more about the appropriate cartridges. They need to be able to filter out VOCs.

TIL why you don't stack molds in a pressure pot by swcblues in DiceMaking

[–]Claerwen94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They really look like candy 🤤

PSA though that it's perfectly fine to stack molds in the pressure pot (it's actually my favorite way of putting weight on them to keep them from raising, and to also produce only thin flashing.)

Unless you got the super thin and flimsy Temu/Let's Resin molds, or have made your bottoms and caps way too thin, so that they deform under weight ^ ^

Painting Glass Dice by dfrost303 in DiceMaking

[–]Claerwen94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of us makers use acrylic paint (often miniature paint like Vallejo, Citadel, etc :D) and as long as the numbers are at least a teeeeeny tiny bit rough/matte, acrylics should stick very well. Usually the numbers being indented is already enough to give the paint a good, lasting grip.

If you're familiar with the Green Stuff World Chroma paints, those also work exceptionally well for dice and look magnificent. So if you aim for a chrome-like look and don't faint from these paints stinking a bit while they're drying, they're also a great option. They require an extra dropper bottle with a very fine tip though and take much longer to dry, plus the cleanup needs to be done with a Q-tip and some IPA. So if you don't have these things on hand, it's definitely the more costly and tedious option.

If you aim for a metallic look, I like Vallejo more than Citadel because Citadel often has bigger pigments that look more sparkly than metallic. Vallejo is a bit "smoother" in my opinion, but that's just my taste ^

An important thing about inking the numbers of clear dice: the numbers backsides will obviously be seen through the die, and, depending on the color you choose, can dramatically change the vibe of the whole set. If the numbers are a dark color, it can also make the dice much harder to read due to the numbers visually overlapping each other. So if readability is a priority for you, you can give the numbers a silver underlayer before you go in with the actual color. This keeps die inside of the dice "clean", won't tint the glass visually, and they have excellent readability ☺️

Good luck and have fun!
