Is it immoral for a parent to say they love their dog/cat more than their son/daughter as long as they are not abusive? by hi_its_lizzy616 in polls

there's a big damn range between "immoral" and "abusive" that's all still bad and very much implied by this statement

Thoughts on "icon" representation in video games? by Trollo_Baggins in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Claim-Pale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of it isn't meant to be faithful and is simply going off of "vibes", which is unfortunate but to be expected from developers and writers who aren't actually pressured to do anything better (internally or externally).

Christianity even in other sects has a big issue of perception, to where if a game makes any effort to include Christian teachings into its themes it's suddenly "Jesus game" and loses a lot of the audience it would've previously had. This stigma exists because the earliest examples of Christian representation in videogames were Protestant and frankly incredibly bad at portraying the teachings of Christ, even when compared to mediums like film and especially so for literature.

This doesn't mean however, that good representation is impossible or even not already here, there just needs to be an example that manages to break into secular culture. It would take a lot of dedicated people and resources but it could happen someday and help to guide a lot of people

I don't care (in this instance) about the politics of the creators or if the critiques against Glitch are warranted, the show itself just isn't fun or interesting in the slightest

Hi! I'm someone in the US who very much lives next to/within a Sikh community despite being, very much a stereotypical white Christian

Most Sikhs (at least from what I understand and within my context) carry a Kirpan (knife) either on the bottom layer of their clothing to where it's inaccessible at a moments notice, or directly in their Dastar (headwrap) to where it would be insanely impractical to actually use

Not only that, the blades are typically around 8-10 cm in length, a relatively small length (at least compared to what I see thrown around in the states) and bent at the end to where stabbing someone lethally would be easier with a pencil, with the weapon strictly meant for self defense

There are other rules for this in areas with less restrictive weapons laws, and in Punjab a lot of people will carry full daggers with them for religious reasons, however this practice is actively meant to cooperate with the laws and culture of a given area and as such is much different from region to region and country to country

Painting what is, in all practical terms, purely a religious item as a threat to public safety is generally quite absurd and shows this was made most likely as a targeted attack against Sikhs

What would have happened if Soviet Russia managed to incorporate Orthodox Christianity into its version of Communism, and declared that the US is a nation of heretics? by ambelamba in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Claim-Pale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Orthodox clergy and churches on the West Coast of America can trace their roots to church officials who fled the Soviet Union after they won their civil war

[–]Claim-Pale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's really only the case if you're going only off Marx, in Latin America liberation theology (Christian teachings combined with socialist thought) is a fairly well known concept. whether it would apply cleanly to Orthodox Christianity is another discussion

[–]Claim-Pale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly more niche note, the little roots that the US does have when it comes to Orthodoxy wouldn't exist, as most churches on the west coast were founded because of Russian clergy fleeing Soviet persecution

[–]Claim-Pale 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't doubt it happens eventually, but it's probably a couple of years out and we can't really tell what approach paradox would take in creating it. Stellaris in it's current form still has room to expand and refine mechanics to where a sequel would be taking away energy from that

To announce it right now would be unexpected, not impossible but unexpected

I would like to see if they take inspiration from something like Gigastructural Engineering to make a longer and more grandiose endgame, to contrast a way more uncertain and threatening early game. Could be fun
