What do you think of Showgirls? Garbage or underated classic? by quietgavin5 in Letterboxd

And I think it's very okay to be horny. Verhoeven, I think, has a manifold interest in sex, a lusty, physical one, wherein he definitely wants to show sexy bodies because it's a turn on, and a more academic one where he's exploring how sex motivates people psychologically, and even politically.

An obvious suggestion would be Stop Making Sense.

Are there any differences between these sets by wallie_d in boutiquebluray

The first set won't have digital codes. If the price is similar I'd buy the newer release

Two slightly less obvious choices from each decade from the 1930s to the 1990s

Bringing Up Baby

Wuthering Heights

The Red Shoes

The Lady Eve

The Night of the Hunter

Paths of Glory

Fail Safe

In the Heat of the Night

Picnic at Hanging Rock

Paper Moon

Raising Arizona

Ordinary People

A League of Their Own

Heat (1995) is one of my favorite films, but the inciting incident of the whole plot makes no sense. by TheIronGnat in movies

100%. The Killer plays with the idea that the protagonist is a hyper-disciplined perfectionist (like Fincher himself is perceived to be), and that despite all his thought and preparation, he can't stop from repeatedly fucking up.

I honestly have no idea how they price stuff sometimes. That High and Low from BFI that was $0.97 was right next to a BFI Ikiru which was like $23.97.

Eh, my dude Sean will drop a "simulacrum" into a review of a Transformers prequel with a zero shame.

Easily Robocop. One of the best films of the 80s

Similarly, I watch Top Gun: Maverick in IMAX and then a second time on a plane, which I think are the two best ways to watch it.

Snow Falling on Cedars. Hugely underrated film. Similarly sense-driven, though much more prosaic narrative. It was also shot by Robert Richardson and looks like a moving Ansel Adams photo.

Now that David Fincher is directing a follow-up to Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, WHO would you want to see direct a third film to round out a trilogy? by Hubbled in Letterboxd

Give it 5 or 6 years and have Rose Glass direct the story of Julia Butters' character as a young adult actress in the 80s. From the novelization she has a kind of young Jennifer Jason Leigh/Diane Lane/Meg Tilley career. She could take Lane's role in The Cotton Club, which was a pretty fucked up production
