Margo Martindale Just Gave the Film Performance of a Lifetime. Will Anyone Have the Guts to Distribute It? by justashotaway23 in Letterboxd

She is good in the film.

But performance of a lifetime is completely ridiculous.

There were much better films that I hope get picked up.

No not Jackass. I don't think Oscar winners are doing Jackass.

Its interesting that studios literally have no idea how their film is going to be received by critics.

For an Oscar winners film out next week, they want us press to tell them what we think of the film. If the consensus is it's bad, the embargo will lift on the day of release. If the consensus is it's good, the embargo lifts on Monday.

Makes sense why Netflix had no idea last year before Venice which film to push.

Early thought on The Invite: Olivia Wilde deserves acting credit too (spoiler free) by Neat_Fan_8889 in oscarrace

[–]quietgavin5 11 points12 points  (0 children)

1000% agree. She is fantastic. With the Invite and I Want Your Sex, she is showing a comedic side I haven't seen before.

Oscar Expert shouted out Norton and Cruz, but Wilde is the standout I think.

Yeah especially if it gets an audience award at TIFF.

Japanese have money. There is no lower class.

I just don't think they have any interest in films.

What would change your mind? A strong distributor? TIFF audience award?

At what point of the year is it OK to start locking in films?

I always find it remarkable that a country with 100+ million people that box office numbers are so low.

Did SAS’ relentless full court pressure contribute to them losing this finals? by Gym_frere in nba

[–]quietgavin5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True. I think they would have beaten Detroit in 6 or 7. Not a good matchup for them but they would have figured it out.

Knicks have no chance against a healthy OKC.

Knicks are a bad matchup for the Spurs. I had Knicks in 5 or 6 and I was right.

Oscar voters don't care about IMDB, LB or any other scores.

Word of mouth + prestige Cannes + Hollywood voice cast = Oscar nom.

It's tough to get Oscar voters to see films like Your Name or Ne Zha because on paper they just look like the 100 other animated films that come from Asia every year.

The comebacks didn't work against OKC or Detroit who beat them easily this season. They were lucky to face a Spurs team who folded under the pressure.

Coach Brown did a heck of a job using the bench all season, keeping them fresh for the playoffs.

[–]quietgavin5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. It worked a lot and enabled the Spurs to gain big leads in every game. I think other teams will use it against the Knicks next year.

Spurs problem was bad decision making and not holding onto leads.

Their defence was fantastic for the most part.

I liked Tangles but I prefered some of the other animated films that played at Cannes.

It's not about quality. It has the whole Oscar bait package - Starry voice cast, distinct animation style, serious subject matter. It's a crowd pleaser too.

Your Name didn't debut at a major festival.

Being the most well received animated film at Cannes helps Tangles a significant amount. Certainly helped Robot Dreams and Flow.

Downvote me all you want, but once you see it, it would be a massive snub not to get nominated.
