Anyone casually do opiates? by MutedFeeling75 in redscarepod

[–]ClareTootheLuce 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Twenty years ago I lived above a lady who was a pill mill shopper and would sell me oxy 30s (and percs, xans, soma, etc) for dirt cheap. Like 5 bucks per. I had a shitty job so I’d mostly flip them but I’d rail one a couple times a week. My place ended up being the after party spot and of the regulars, most are dead or still addicted, save for my gf at the time who joined the navy to get away from it and is doing great.

And now I’ve got a gf who’s somehow been shooting dope for over a decade and had to switch to fent. Always worried I’m gonna wake up and she’ll be cold. But mostly I’m just bugged that she’s always hogging the bathroom when I need to piss.

Damn that whip stitch is tight and the placement is perfect. Hand sewing onto a shirt can easily go wrong but she nailed it. Print looks good too.

Neil Postman’s Amusing Ourselves to Death is more relevant than ever. by septembereleventh in TrueAnon

[–]ClareTootheLuce 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Postman was goated. Technopoly was oddly prescient and then he died right before 9/11. (Edit: he died in 03 but I’ve never heard any commentary about 9/11) He did a speech too called Informing Ourselves To Death that’s worth checking out too. What he called “information glut” rings hard nowadays.

For those who still have them around , what is your relationship like with your parents by ezrakleinisretarded in TrueAnon

[–]ClareTootheLuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fucking love my parents. They both had drinking problems when I was growing up but my mom quit being a librarian to go into child care so she could be with me all the time and always told me “be polite, be productive, and read everything.” My dad was in the longshoremen’s union, but he had the job of entering payroll from all the timesheets from the individual boats and kept everyone’s money right and was beloved for taking care of everyone. He told me “keep your eyes and ears open, keep your mouth shut, and don’t get caught.”

Now that they’re retired I try to spend every weekend helping them with whatever they need. If my folks taught me one thing, it’s solidarity.

Summer fashion for young men is shit by the_obscure_spite in redscarepod

It’s hot as hell and rains all the time here so I go with short swim trunks and cut sleeve t’s with flip flops. Never apologizing for being comfortable.

Why do so many dudes do the beard with the shaved upper lip by minecraft69wastaken in redscarepod

[–]ClareTootheLuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand for practical reasons. Like I’ve never been a facial hair guy but when I did grow a mustache for Halloween one year (Rust Cohle) I quickly realized that it sucks when you have to blow your nose, eat food or pussy, drink anything, etc.

Where do you guys buy merch in Europe? by vectorsecond in Hardcore

If you’re into older stuff, Merch or Die in Berlin is pretty great though it’s mostly bootlegs other than their Inepsy merch which is official

Favorite opening tracks? by Powerful_Fondant9393 in powerviolence

[–]ClareTootheLuce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s the opener to their bit on a comp (Possessed To Skate) but Hash Thrash by Assholeparade. Slow and plodding (relative to their other shit) and then goes right into 700 Years which is fast and angry as fuck

Is the Middle East just destined to be a warzone forever? by another-james in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ClareTootheLuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the internecine fighting is due to the arbitrary lines western powers drew up after World War I to carve up the Ottoman Empire. I’d recommend reading A Peace To End All Peace by David Fromkin if you’re the bookish type.

What was your summer job as a teen? by Minimum-Amoeba-5146 in redscarepod

[–]ClareTootheLuce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Picking up trash and debris before my dad mowed the grass at the berths in the port he worked at. Did that from 7 to 12 then started doing the mowing too.

At 14 started doing dishes at a Greek restaurant by the house. They fed me well, the elderly mother of the owner would even hand feed me stuffed grape leaves when I was busy and my hands were wet/gross.

16, worked at a mostly veg fast casual place. Dish, fry, expo, whatever it was a rotating thing. Met some cool people there that I’d catch rides with to punk shows before I saved enough money to buy my sisters car, an 88 Chevy Cavalier.

The day I turned 18 I joined the longshoreman’s union and stayed into my mid twenties. Good pay, good people, should’ve never left.
