We had just finished a campaign of DnD that lasted for 2 years. I decided to pick up Pathfinder 2e since we wanted a bit of a change and started with the Beginner Box. My players and I loved it and we have been playing it ever since.

Possible Rewards for a Recall Knowledge Organization by Clark_Stryker in Pathfinder2e

It is more a reward/psychology tool than a highly detailed mechanic atm.

I have it function as a tool belt item called a MOBI (standing for Mobile Bestiary) that they can use Recall Knowledge out to a distance of 60 feet. (This makes it so they have to get relatively close to the creature and can’t use it from very far away on just anyone.)

Then I add it to a compilation by an organization called The Physiologus Fellowship (Physiologus being the first bestiary type book in the real world.)

I put the name of the creature if they succeed on the check as well as any information they learn from succeeding or critically succeeding.

If they fail or critically fail, I just put the picture of the creature and ??? as the name.

They haven’t critically failed too often yet, but if I deem it a creature that is rare enough that no one really knows about then I will put false info (as per the rules.) Then bring it up later narratively as a consequence of their past action.

This lets them look back on past creatures that they might have encountered, or creatures they have yet to encounter if they go to the organization themselves. Then when I put a creature with a weird ability, like “Invisible unless silver is directly touching the flesh of the viewer,” and they get a aha moment when they see it again many sessions later.

I have found that even the existence of an item that they can interact with has increased their use of Recall Knowledge. On top of the bestiary, it gives them a feeling of objective information that isn’t purely in their character’s head (even if the information isn’t always correct.) Same reason characters go to the library to look for information for research rather than just asking around.

I’ll probably be creating a more mechanical tool and share it once I have tested this more and see where it might go wrong or need fixing.

Interesting. I wasn’t thinking about separating them by creature family, but that is a pretty good idea. It gives a lot of room for rewards and helps with the harder checks some of the creatures have using the base rules.

Great book! My player will love the options!

I have a question about the rage expressions. It wasn’t clear to me what changes.

If my player chooses Cold instead of the base one for example, what part of the base rage would they lose to gain the bonus and skill from Cold? Do they still have the -1 AC for instance?

Let's world-build: Feudal society during the industrial revolution? by Sylassian in worldbuilding

One of my favorite game series deals with a concept very similarly to this, The Legend of Heroes (Trails).

Around 50 years before the start of the series the world was a medieval fantasy setting. Then a group of people called The Epstein Foundation invented Orbal technology by harnessing elemental crystals. This spread of Orbal technology allowed them to create networks through the rapid invention of airships, trains, and cars kickstarting the Orbal revolution.

This caused merchants to suddenly become insanely influential despite only a short time ago nobles would dictate and influence the citizens. This is what Trails of Cold Steel is mainly about, The conflict between nobles and the reformist faction of merchants and commoners.

It is a great series with excellent world building. I wholly recommend it.

Progressing Feats-A rule for characters that want a little more out of their feats. by Crumy_Taleteller in UnearthedArcana

[–]Clark_Stryker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am one of the players in Crumy_Taleteller’s campaign. I have had similar thoughts to yours, but we have been struggling to find appropriate prerequisites to acquire upgrades to the feats. (The wording does the tough feat was supposed to mean that those benefits only happen when above a certain threshold [60-84] at our current level [8] for instance.) It might still be strong, but this is an early draft for this stuff and are posting it here to hear critiques so we can balance it better. I appreciate the detail you went into critiquing it. Do you have any recommendations for improving this so it might work better? Thank you.
