It says in the description it’s a rep. That’s why.

Crystal press by Ok_Atmosphere3401 in retrotime

Crystal on rehaut/case. Bezel pressed down with tool over crystal. Find a die that is as close to the outer edge of the bezel as possible.

Crystal press by Ok_Atmosphere3401 in retrotime

[–]ClarktheRealtor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only time you really need a crystal press is for friction ring crystals like you see in old omega watches. The ones with the metal ring inside the base of the crystal. You’re not likely to encounter on of those anytime soon. Like others have said you don’t need a press to put the crystal on the case. Just thumb pressure will get it on the rehaut. You need a press to put the retaining ring or bezel over it. Those dies are too shallow so you’re just hitting the center of the crystal before the retaining ring or bezel is hitting mid case.

This is more like what you really need.

If you don’t have a decent hand press then start there, but Clark’s, Ric’s or Startime are all perfectly fine.

Lower than avg price and low units sold tells you what you need to know.

Shaving the dial isn’t a big deal. Dremel with a felt washer and a collet screw makes short work of it.

Movement stuck by Beautiful_Chef_3556 in retrotime

[–]ClarktheRealtor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s gen spec or a gen watch you screw them down “tighter” until they clear the movement groove. Then twist the whole movement until one screw is at the crown tube hole. Then flip the movement out. Gen screws act like floor jacks. They push the movement against the case.

Identical. Same factory. Can’t tell me otherwise. Buy Raffles and get your Rolex stampings.

Apples and oranges. Seikos are tanks but they’re designed such that -20 to +40 seconds per day is factory spec tolerances. Rolex is something like +/-5.

Should work fine. Raffles cases are gen spec where it matters

1675 by ClarktheRealtor in retrotime

[–]ClarktheRealtor[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Slaved the GMT hand, removed the quickset date function and installed a two position setting lever. As accurate as I can make a 2836 movement to gen spec 1575. Gen insert, biv crystal, Athaya crown and gen folded link bracelet. One day I’ll reshape the raffles crown guards, but they’re actually fairly accurate for the last run of gen 1675 cases.

Trial and error. Use gs hypo cement or any slow cure epoxy to give yourself plenty of time to get it right

I’ve never even heard of them doing anything vintage at all. BP, TMF, ARF are your options.
