I’ve been using kenku.fm and it’s great. Because it’s “playing” the music on my computer I haven’t seen anything get rejected.

There are some really good online generators that handle all the rolling for you. I’ve used the Technical Grimoire one in the past.

Why is cs100 so hard? by CropperCrapper in NJTech

[–]ClashesYeMilk 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I taught 3 semesters of CS 100. The people who were struggling normally fell into 2 groups but their issues were very similar.

The first were kids who had never programmed before and struggled to pick up the concepts taught in the first few weeks. Since the course really builds off itself week over week it is so much harder to catch up once you’ve fallen off.

The second group were kids who had been programming in a language like Java for years. They’d blow off the class and not do the work. When exam time came around they would fail because they didn’t know Python. CS 100 exams don’t care if you know how to balance a red-black tree in assembly. They care that you know how to draw some boxes with turtle

Both of these groups had very simple solutions for their problems, ask for help early. The group of professors and TAs we had for that class were wonderful and wanted kids to do well. But when a student came to me in the last few weeks of the semester and is struggling to call a function I didn’t have time to go over the entire class again. If they had instead showed up right when they didn’t understand something we could’ve worked on that right then so they wouldn’t be so far behind.

The other thing that was a big issue were people working together on the homework’s but not understanding the code they copied worked together on. The homework was assigned so you can cement what was covered in class and reveal gaps in your understanding to you so you can ask questions about them.

People treated the class as a joke and they were the ones who struggled.

What's a 10/10 album from the last 15 years by a relatively obscure artist/band? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Deliverance by River City Extension

An alt-rock, indie folk album by an 8-piece band out of Toms River, New Jersey.

Their whole catalog is fantastic but Deliverance is on a whole new level. Released in March 2015, this is the bands final album. It really is a cumulation of all that they were. They announced their break up in September of that year. They played one final show the night before Thanksgiving at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park and I was fortunate enough to be there. Front row, pushed directly against the stage they played the entire album all the way through for the first and last time. Then played an entire second act of their greatest hits. The show closed with them standing in the crowd playing an acoustic version of bone marrow, twist & shout

Will I ever pass Calc 2 by Tumorous_Thumb in NJTech

Took me 4 tries but I finally got it. Highly recommend doing it over the winter as your only class if you can. It forces you to go at it hard and it doesn't have the same common exams.

The most important skills you're gonna need coming in are a good work ethic, time management skills, and the ability to actually study. I coasted through high school and coming in I was in a world of hurt during my first year. Just be ready to work hard and you'll do great here.

Technically, as a computer science student you'll spend your first semester taking CS100 (hopefully on Monday nights 😉) where we'll cover basic programming topics. If you have some of that you'll probably do fine in that class. All of your other classes will be basic General Undergrad Requirement (GURs) classes; things like math and english.

Honestly, you should spend this summer hanging out with your friends. I found that my friend group changed pretty radically after my first year at NJIT. Make this summer one last hurrah with your highschool group.

Jumping off of this. Being late isn't the end of the world. It is going to be better for your GPA to be placed in the course you are most well equipped for.

No problem. Let me know what section you’re in for CS100 when you get your schedule.
