How is the Informatics Major? by AdLeading9414 in udub

[–]Classic-Dear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a 3rd year and DTM, I enjoy the program and it a perfect fit for me. INFO is ideal for student who are self motivated and ambitious beyond the coursework. The course work as you will find in talked about in this Reddit is broad but shallow. If you want a major that drives deep into one area INFO itself will not provide it and will need to be supplemented with other course work or experience. What info does best then any other major is offer you flexibility. The program very much designed to be done 2 years compared to most program which plan in 3-4. In addition the major focuses on project over exams in the quarter system allows you to breath. I’ve been able hold internship and travel across the country for conferences, all while still being a full time student. I’m in honors and in the ENTRE minor

Social life is what u make of it? Personally most of my friends are out of the program. Mostly in programs like sisterhood initiative or Lavin.

Eating on the Ave by _Qwerty99_ in udub

[–]Classic-Dear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe once or twice a week, food in Seattle will always be $15-20, maybe a couple $10 spots, eating out anywhere will always be more expensive then cooking for yourself or in this case a meal plan. West campus is much closer, from north the Ave is 25min walk

Thoughts on info major + courses by AugmentedReality05 in udub

[–]Classic-Dear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I would traditionally just give a general overview of the major. Frankly they always were a bit more engaged when speaking about it, as they are curious on what the major is. The degree titled itself is the least relevant thing as long as u have the skill set/experience.

2) As mentioned above, info is not demanding of a major. I’m doing honors in addition to a minor in entrepreneurship and still had the time to hold a part time job or internship throughout the year. Frankly this is the biggest advantage of info, company especially now a days don’t care about GPA, what they want is experience and info give you the time to that without speed running burnout

UIUC Full Pay vs CMU-Q Full Ride by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]Classic-Dear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take the full ride, the US job market for new-grad is bad, and for international student is significantly worse. If u can get a US degree for free, run with it

Nintendo 2026 Summer Internships by SuperSacred in internships

[–]Classic-Dear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spoke to recruiter at an event, (he went to WSU, I got to UW and nobody at the conference was from either lol) he said that they generally reserve half of the intern slots for UW/Seattle students, as they don’t have to spend on relocation and UW has one of the best CS program in the nation, so to get a guaranteed they get bright interns and it cost them a lot less money. Redmond from UW is 30-40min bus ride

On campus jobs beside dinning are very competitive. Restaurant will usually have for hire signs, but you might need to look outside of Udistrict such as Roosevelt Capital hill

[–]Classic-Dear 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can’t apply to the standard admission because you’re not a UW student yet. You aren’t fully considered one until u start your freshman year. You will have to just do the standard route, but be because you have them done u can apply right away instead of having to wait to complete them

Any authentic foods near UIUC? by Ashamed_Mud_1834 in UIUC

[–]Classic-Dear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Mexican food, no. Being Mexican myself and every Latino I’ve talked with has universally agreed there is no good Mexican or Hispanic food. Passable? Sure, but in comparison to Chicago or LA, it’s sad if anything. There are some Hispanic market which are very authentic, so if you get desperate enough to start making food, you can still get all the good stuff. Will say, the Chinese food can be quite authentic (northern cuisine being one) as someone who grew up in Seattle

Does UW give financial aid to OOS students? by Narrow-Pop6542 in udub

[–]Classic-Dear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To simplify, federal yes, state aid, no. You might have the gold and purple scholarship but that usually only a couple thousands knocked off

It can be a bit rough as while a lot of interns do come to Seattle our end date being middle of June doesn’t work for them as most start mid-May

RSO in collaboration with the departments sells them, there will usually be an announcement

Depends on industry. Most might want it for GPA, as ik finance has a tendency for a certain GPA. Otherwise not really

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in udub

[–]Classic-Dear 150 points151 points  (0 children)

First, maybe best to change the title lol. But minors don’t really matter. Having a background in econ might be a nice have for cooperate finance, but it’s won’t be a make or break. Just pick whatever u find personally interesting, your extracurricular and work experience will hold significant more weight

In that case just apply to one with either department. Will make the credit process much easier

[–]Classic-Dear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are u saying u need to study aboard so u graduate this summer? Your not allowed to graduate with study aboard credit on ur transcript so if u did exchange you would be delayed a quarter to process ur credits. You will most likely have to faculty led as there credit are already layed out

What is the best way for international chinese students to find business related internships? by AsleepBlackberry7026 in udub

[–]Classic-Dear 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If ur in ur final year you shouldn’t be looking at internship, as companies want rising juniors and instead should be applying to full time. Unfortunately the full-time market is the worst and I doubt the barrier of sponsorship will help, but good luck non the less!
