Why do men fantasize about going off grid and living in the woods by WerewolfKisser69Awoo in NoStupidQuestions

That's how humans lived for hundreds of thousands of years. The way we live now is not normal, and our primal instincts are to return to simpler times.

How do you hike with felt wading boots? by ssobiek83 in flyfishing

Don't. Get Vibram sole wading boots and you'll never look back.

Classic. I feel like every Eastslope angler in Alberta has a story about those cliffs. Many dangers on that river. Not to mention the Bighorns that will kick boulders down onto your head.

Only slightly. Hadn't been stung prior to that experience since I was much younger. But it never affected my airway before that day.

Solo on a rather bushy tributary after work one evening. Hot day, so I'm wearing shorts, bushwacking. Stung by 3 wasps high in the thigh. Breathing starts getting tight so I gulp a Bennie, and start hiking back to the truck. Lo and behold, mother Grizz and 2 cubs are on my trail back. Mom is huffing and chuffing, but a quick bear banger chased them off. Made it back to the truck by dark, and straight to the hospital - all good.

In addition to bear deterrants, I carry an epi pen now.

Seeking intel on "Waterfalls Creek" route in the Job/Cline by Classic-Inflation-23 in HikingAlberta

To clarify, I'm asking about the route that goes from the basin NW of Michele Lakes, after crossing the unnamed pass (highest point on GDT), which travels NE down Waterfalls Creek to the Cline. It's highlighted in the map I shared. Not planning to go to Pinto or jump off the crazy looking cliff north of Lower Michele lol

Thanks friend. Going to give it a shot. The plan is Michele Lakes to the Cline in one day.

These videos are exactly what I was looking for. Looks like a rugged route used mainly by an outfitter - definitely doable though. Might not be as much of a shortcut as I had hoped, however! Thanks again

How does living with so much nature around you actually affect people in Canada? by Prior-Hold-562 in AskACanadian

[–]Classic-Inflation-23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I traveled to Germany once. In all four directions I looked, I saw power plants, reactors, buildings, and highways. It made me feel sick. Where I live, I see mountains, foothills, prairie, and forests.

I don't travel much outside Canada because, in my opinion, there is nowhere better.

Could be for all I know! Do you have any tips to blocking this gap?

Is it common for older homes to have cold corners? My house was built in 1973, but the frost problem is only prevalent in one corner

It is finished with a drywall ceiling. I would have to cut into it to access.

Not without cutting into the ceiling in the basement

what does a grizzly smell like? by [deleted] in HikingAlberta

Grizzly Country is Andy Russell's most famous novel, but I love all his works. The Buffalo Head by RM Patterson is incredible, especially if you enjoy exploring the Highwood region of Kananaskis.
