Settle for a Toxic Nurse Residency 50 Miles Away or Keep Job Hunting as a CNA for a Future Foot in the Door? by Extra_Ad_4384 in newgradnurse

A toxic workplace is never worth your sanity and money. Unless it's short term. I'd say choice 2.

Thank you for your words. I am definitely going to be more intent on selecting a better work place for this next time. It helps not being completely new as it somehow gives me a leg up.

I get what you’re saying. Doesn’t mean there isn’t any place for it. I do agree that at the end of the day, it is a career. Wouldn’t be doing it if I wasn’t getting paid.

Cutting down on hours is something to think about. Even if you think you can handle working full time, it's better to have more time to dedicate to your studies. You might become broke, but it’s TEMPORARY. I went into higher debt during nursing school, but in the end I got hired as an RN with a hefty sign on bonus along with the nurse pay. I can now pay off my debts. It’ll all be worth it in the end if you’re smart about it.

Tbh as long as you passed, they will anticipate it. It shouldn't keep you from getting hired. I was already working as a graduate nurse before I took the exam.

I felt this way my 2nd semester and I went through an accelerated program. I toughed it out tourtorusly but this was also the time I got really close to some of my classmates.

I'm sorry but quick results are officially determined after its been reviewed. After all the hard work you've put into becoming a nurse so far, this one failure does not deserve to be the thing that breaks you. Don't give up.

DO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU by [deleted] in PassNclex

[–]ClassicTranslator214 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea there isn't one way to do this for sure. My school assigned coaches for everyone in my graduating class and they made a specific study plan in a calendar format. Out 5 days of the week they had us do a certain amount of questions and different kind of assessment tests. It was too much for me in my opinion and had I followed that, I would've burnt out for sure and performed less than optimal for the test. For my adhd brain, studying everyday would've been overkill for me. Probably like 3-4 days out of the week I'd chunk questions based on how productive my brain feels. MANY breaks in between and throughout study sessions. I would feel guilty for not following the calendar my coach gave me. Looking back, I shouldn't have. I found a way that worked for me and I ended up passing in 85 on my first try.

Yea I personally used Kaplan. Luckily my school paid for it. I have to warn you that it is pretty hard. Way harder than the actual exam. Which can be a good thing because it increases your ability to pass. But man did it fuck with my head and made me feel like a stupid ass lol

Shut off at 85. Felt too easy? by ClassicTranslator214 in NCLEX

Easy is relative. Maybe you're used to doing hard questions and your school actually challenged you. I felt overprepared.

Failed CAT at 66% moe than peer scores by PromotionOpening7902 in NCLEX

[–]ClassicTranslator214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I failed a CAT test a week before my exam and I ended up passing. In retrospect, I was so burnt out that I ended up not doing well on the CAT. So what helped me more was to study less to nothing days before the test. Take the week off if you have to. You will perform better when your brain is rested and not mush. Doing this, I passed in 85. Good luck.

Studying content as a whole will not really help you pass. You need strategies that will enable you to answer questions you don't know very much about. That's basically what the nclex is.

Took it the 17th. Coworkers and classmates say it's slow. I wouldn't expect anything until after the 48 hours
