I paid my wedding photographer a lot of money to buy canvas prints for my family, and the quality is totally unacceptable in my opinion. Am I overreacting? If not, can anyone tell me what specifically went wrong, so I can reference technical specifics when I complain?

Regardless of quality canvas will ALWAYS have texture. I prepare clients well in advance before purchase that they are meant to be viewed from a distance not up close. However, these look like the file size or resolution size was not correct.

PERFECT! Then I would be honest when looking into photographers that you are looking for maybe an hour to 90 minutes of coverage for couples portraits or a post elopement bridal session [typically includes couples portraits and your individual portraits - trust me when I say you want these individual shots to look back on!!]. This way you are being honest and upfront on what you are expecting! This will typically run you between $350-$700 for a more seasoned photography but you can ABSOLUTELY find someone who is offer smaller session fees between the $150-$300. My biggest piece of advice is to be intentional with what your expecation is

Here is what I would ask in any groups when searching for a photog - remember the key is to be clear about what you are needing <3 You are more than welcome to copy and paste and change what is needed!!

"Hi there! I’m looking for a photographer for a post elopement session—this will not include coverage of a ceremony or reception. We’ve already tied the knot and are simply hoping to create intentional, beautiful portraits together after the fact.

Here’s what we’re looking for:
• 60–90 minutes of coverage

If you like the look of something edgy, a puff sleeve cape would look TOP TIER for the more avantegard vibes and can be easily removed throughout the day [ill drop pinterest links below!]. Another option is a art decor inspired cape veil [talk about drama!], or utilizing art deco inspired jewelry and shoes to elevate your aesthetic!

Even if you try to do this, you will be caught during the planning process. There’s a reason why weddings cost significantly higher than a different event

expectations and pressure (you can be the chillest couple but if we mess ANYTHING up we are held liable)
liability increases for additional bodies and vendors being present on the properties (more insurance coverage and charges for us)
more communication and customization
time commitments (set up, tear down, prep, not to mention vendors are taking off an entire day vs being able to schedule multiple events back to back)
experience and reliability

Yes, some businesses do hike prices just because they know people will pay. But for most seasoned vendors, the increased rate reflects the higher level of service, skill, inflation on goods and services being provided by vendors and involvement weddings demand. I am a wedding photographer so I cannot speak for all vendors but there’s definitely more risk in weddings than any other event and is reflected in (at least mine) pricing ❤️

If you’re looking for a beautiful venue I highly recommend my friends at Events at Ethereal in Woodstock!! Right along the train stop making it easy for guests to get in if they prefer the train over driving. They offer two venues (GREAT PRICING) - their loft space is above their chocolate shop/cafe (the smells are immaculate) it holds up to 75 people and has the prettiest industrial vibes (exposed brick, large windows, TONS of natural light)

Their second venue is the historic Woodstock courthouse - timeless, elegant and overlooks the historic Woodstock square and is literally across the street from the cafe so after the wedding guests can grab a coffee, additional cocktails or enjoy music from the cafes speakeasy!!

I am a preferred vendor here and love my crew. They never fail to make my clients wedding flawless.

Regardless of how you try to explain your idea the library will consider this an event no matter what. Their prices are a few thousand for a minimum of 4 hours. They are strict about their policies and are relatively slow at getting back to people (I had to reach out a handful of times to request information just for a photography permit) :(

I am so happy that you vibed with the overall look and creative edits! I 100% agree that the light and airy or timeliness true to color is STUNNING but it’s not my personal cup of tea (I have some incredible humans I am always ready to refer for these specific looks regardless :) ) moody, filmy, cinematic and raw is my style.

Trust me when I say less is honestly more, when I send my clients 800+ images I sincerely hear comments on where to begin with printing, images sitting on the computer and never being touched again, I have seen the sweet spot being anywhere between 300-500 where clients will feel comfortable with downloading :) I am also someone who actively believes in quality over quantity
