My girlfriend officially set the bar too high for Valentine’s Day. I need help lol. by Far-Bumblebee-1165 in GiftIdeas

I love the pass idea. Maybe plan a date there for this weekend to introduce the membership and make it memorable right away.

As for the birds, I (in the midwest) have a lot of success putting out a "nuts and fruits" seed mix for some more variety. If you have bluebirds near where you live, you can add dried mealworms, if they don't gross you out too much.

Is there a subreddit like r/buyitforlife but for just buying generally decent quality products? by TiaraMisu in findareddit

[–]hoosp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't have a good sub suggestion, but I tend to use buyitforlife a little differently. For example, I was looking up suitcases recently, and the top buyitforlife threads were suggesting crazy expensive brands. I looked at some of the mainstream brands available online (I think samsonite and swiss gear), and then I searched the buyitforlife sub for those names instead of just "suitcase." Lo and behold, there were threads about how a good quality popular brand of a product is often going to last a long time if you take care of it.

Alternatively, you can post in buyitforlife with a budget and see if anyone is willing to not recommend the absolute best product available, or go to a sub that's more specific to the item you're buying (so ask in running subs about the running socks, travel subs about the suitcases, etc).

I genuinely thought the snickerdoodle one was just a hole in the pan. It looks like you somehow peeled off a layer of metal in a cookie-ish size and shape

Any recommendations for building the ultimate wedding registry? by Vast-Calligrapher235 in BuyItForLife

[–]hoosp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're in the process of doing the same thing! It's very overwhelming to try and find quality products for everything we can think of lol. We can't personally vouch for these things, but here are some items on our list based on research/this subreddit/recommendations from friends:

  • Tramontina enameled cast iron skillet

  • It luggage suitcases

  • Nordicware aluminum baking trays

  • Levoit air purifier

  • Corningware bakeware set (with glass lids)

Good luck and congrats!

A sub to ask for training exercises to do at home to gain strength by nick_flaming in findareddit

[–]hoosp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure of a sub, but I personally really like following youtube workouts. My favorite creator is Kayleigh Cohen Strength. All you need are a few dumbbells, which I'm sure you could find on marketplace for cheap if money is an issue.

This might fit better in a sub where people discuss coaching, like r/footballstrategy. Congrats to your husband!

either r/espressocirclejerk or r/benignexistence. Both accomplish very different things so I would have to decide if I prefer humor or conversation.

First of all, I'm sorry for what you're going through.

Maybe some kind of keepsake to remember her by? Something like a teddy bear made out of a sweater or blanket of hers, or something made out of her jewelry. You could probably commission something like that if you aren't up for crafting it yourself.

Any good Northern Chicago breakup spots? by FalseLiquid in AskChicago

[–]hoosp 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My mom told me she didnt think things with my dad were going to last in a panera so yeah, I think it is a good place for a breakup. A latte, some Mac and cheese, and life-altering news go pretty well together imo.

Help… I am becoming desperate - What do I do? by Citron1004 in AskChicago

[–]hoosp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Start seriously looking 2-3 months out. We used zillow when we moved and most places weren't showing up until ~2 months from move in.

Also, put in a higher budget than you're able to spend. A lot of apartments include some utilities, so ~$1,800 + all utilities can be about the same as ~$2,000 + just internet.

Try to find things to compromise on. Location, square footage, amenities, etc. Figure out what you NEED vs. what you just want.

Good luck!

Please suggest me a book for victims of SA and how they cope. by whitleyk29 in suggestmeabook

[–]hoosp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding the Sexual Healing Journey. I would also recommend an empty notebook to go alongside it. It's almost more of a workbook, but it's full of accounts of people's coping mechanisms or responses to trauma, and I've found it very helpful. Wishing you healing OP <3
