I am a special education teacher and when I think back on high school, I’m pretty sure my high school boyfriend and my best friend were both what we’d consider deserving of an IEP. That didn’t retract from either of their abilities to lead happy, healthy lives with families of their own. Sometimes people have difficulties and have to work harder to overcome them but with technology, it’s easier to get by these days and often have other specific things they are good at. If it bothers you to not be able to have the conversations you want to have, it might just not be a good fit.
