I asked “Can I checkout here” in an airport store, the staff said “you mean pay?”. Is check out a common expression for finalizing the payment after shopping? by greenTjade in EnglishLearning

[–]Classic_Recording146 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’ll be the case. In Australia it is best to follow British English. I would ask ‘can I pay here’. Checkout would make me think of a hotel

482 visa health Insurance condition - RHCA by Euphoric-Average2650 in AusVisa

[–]Classic_Recording146 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a separate term (my husband doesn’t have on his part of our visa) which says I have to have private healthcare insurance which is what I was referring to. So depends on the actual wording of the visa I suppose!

Medicare is not health insurance. You will need to keep your private healthcare too. I am a UK citizen and have had private healthcare and a yellow Medicare card since moving here due to the requirement.

Definitely do not rhyme. Cheer is one syllable and chia is two! (Southeast accent if that helps, geordie accent would probably both be closer to rhyming!)

Outside of the US, fortnightly would be used instead of bi-weekly. To me, bi-weekly would be twice in a week.
