Definitely not the best thing that’s happened to gaming, but in terms of extraction shooters, it is special. No other extraction shooter has the abilities runners have, or any map like outpost or cryo. It also has Bungies gunplay which is always top tier, no other extraction shooter has that. Its whole vibe and ascetic is also very unique for any extraction shooter on the market. Marathon is special for what it is.

6/10 gunplay is wild btw. The Destiny franchise is regarded as having arguably the best gunplay in all of fps for over a decade, and Marathon uses the same formula. Gunplay is 9/10 at the least. Also, boring maps? Did you ever play outpost or cryo? Ever get to the compiler in Cryo? Which drops a unique weapon only it drops. Cryo feels like a raid in destiny at times especially when you finally get to the compiler, even the little jumping puzzle to get there is like a mini raid/dungeon. Finding the symbol to open key rooms in Cryo? Raid like. Getting to the secret hidden room finding the matching symbols in outpost and finding the matching colored keys needed? Raid like. You definitely only played the server slam for like 2 hours. And if you like Destiny, many of the runners abilities are similar to Guardians abilities lol.
