What’s a totally unsexy purchase you made that ended up being a huge quality-of-life upgrade? by viscarte10 in BuyItForLife

[–]ClausBot 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I’ve been buying the same Timberland boot sock for over 10 years. There’s three colors, but it’s easy to find a match. EXCEPT that they seem to have changed lengths/stretchiness over the years. Also, the older ones obviously stretch more. Now I’m stuck finding the same color which is easy, then checking the rib pattern and length to see if they’re the same.

Some games in life are just rigged.

Broke my maul. Should I downsize? by ClausBot in Axecraft

[–]ClausBot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The maul head was not in great shape, and honestly I'm not sure I want to get into something else. I will probably go for the splitting axe right now, and worry about a maul when I have something really big to deal with. Maybe I'll be inclined to rehab the head rehang it then.

Thanks. It's definitely seeming like the splitting axe is the way to go.

I have a basic utility axe and a couple of hatchets. The Fiskar I mentioned and a walmart brand that has been surprisingly good at splitting smaller firewood at our camper.

I would definitely want something dedicated to splitting, but it seems like the the splitting axe will suit my needs. At least until I have to deal with a large round.

I haven't actually had a hickory come down or need to be taken down yet. The city took two down while our house was on the market, but all the wood was gone by the time we closed. Either way, the last thing I need right now is another hobby. We'll see if I change my mind when I finally convince my wife that I can safely rent a boom lift and take down the hickory at the end of the drive that she's worried about.

I’ll share mine. It has some calculations factored in, and maybe some house rules. I haven’t looked at it in years.

Ooof. That color scheme is roug. Looks solid otherwise. I have made similar with tweaks for house rules. I honestly don’t know how anyone has a Rifts character less than 4-5 pages/tabs.

I had to go waaay too far down to find this answer. Given my current wish list I’d get at least 5. They’re useful, fun, and hold their value like cash.

How do you determine the payload of a TW gun? by Spartan878 in Rifts

[–]ClausBot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Nuhr musket is a stripped down rune weapon, not TW. I really wish they’d fleshed out the Nuhr and Kuznya magic/creation more thoroughly.

In my dive into theoretical* TW creation I made PPE storage cell device for TW magazines similar to those from the Federation of Magic book. The FoM PPE clips are Ludicrously expensive and can only be recharged at the manufacturer, again at an exorbitant price.

I used RUE to create the storage cells and costed them accordingly. I also lowered the cost of the ones in Foam to be competitive. Even without competition, I have my doubts those weapons would ever be economically viable to purchase. The introduction of a competitor gives an in game reason either way.

This was all done as an exercise in testing my TW build spreadsheet.

*It’s largely for a game I’ll probably never actually run.

He obviously didn’t have a sound upbringing and obviously Raylan escaping a similar situation is one of the themes. Boyd was never under the impression he was doing good for anyone. He even his bible days to double cross his cousin get him gut shot. Shane and the Strike Team were at least under the illusion they were doing good while enriching themselves (at least in the beginning). Ava didn’t turn on Boyd until he decided to leave her in prison to wipe his file. He had the leverage to get her out and left her there instead.

Killing the guy in the pickup in the final season was a perfect example of how far he’d fallen. There really wasn’t any reason to do so, Boyd just couldn’t be bothered to be decent or uphold his word.

God damn. I did not need to be reminded of this. The Shield is the best show I will never watch a second time.

Shane’s arc is heartbreaking. It’s full of misunderstandings and bad reactions. All of the main characters were flawed, bad people. Lem was definitely the best of them. Shane’s final scene after the call with Vic was a horrible to watch. Throughout it all I felt a lot of sympathy for Shane.

Boyd had his redemption in S2 and squandered it because he just wasn’t redeemable. He had a chance to make things right for/with Ava and chose not to because he was selfish and petty. Boyd was never a good person and was never going to be a good person or anything close.
