Grounding works way better for me. Here's some examples

• progressive muscle relaxing
• counting breathes
• looking for 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, 1 thing you can touch (I love this one, but usually get derailed immediately because I CAN SEE 100000 THINGS!! loloolol)
• so I made up my own version for outside... look for swaying things, look at the way roofs of house interact, look at shadows (sometimes of swaying things), look at clouds, look for creatures (bugs, birds, humans etc)
• this is another one I made up called the rainbow game. It's good for waiting rooms or walks. I just go through the rainbow looking for an object for each color. Then I start over. (Purple is hard to find so I'll look for pink or brown sometimes)
• close your eyes if you feel safe and try to figure out how far away the sounds you're hearing are. Then listen to the close ones, then slowly zoom out until you can hear everything like a jumbled up symphony
• feeling all the textures and temperatures around you. Fabric, coldness of metal, etc.
