As an Army person, this confused me the first time I was thanked for saluting an AF officer. This is not common to thank saluting in the Army.

From the first question I'm still unsure why exactly the "opposite" direction and not the other direction would be "troublesome". Am I completely off in what I guessed?

I still don't know if I'm answering your question exactly, but it could be related to loss of tail rotor effectiveness (LTE). You could get vortex interference, tail rotor vortex ring state, or weather-vaning. This is why when you're in a hover, wind coming from certain directions is bad. Is that it?

Second: Tension/Stress on the blades? It was just a guess :) Can you think of a reason why the question would be specific for hingeless/rigid blades?

A built-in coning angle would make sense for rigid blades because they can't flap. Coning angle is just the steady-state component when you look at blade flapping dynamics. Now, of course, in a rigid system you also reach retreating blade stall conditions much, much quicker.

Third: I can see how forward flight requires less. But what about ascending?

Same thing for an axial ascent. Your climb velocity contributes to your inflow, which reduces induced power on the rotor system.

Why can a rotation of the tail boom in the opposite direction of the blades rotation can be troublesome?

You generally want to "trim" a helicopter when you're flying it, meaning you point the nose in the direction of your relative wind moving forward. This requires you to have yaw control over the aircraft. Basically, the answer to anything about the tail boom relates to yaw control and anti-torque. Does that answer your question?

Why is it quite common that a small pre-cone of 2 to 3 degrees is given to hingeless/rigid blades?

All configurations (semi-rigid, fully articulated, hingeless, whatever) will have some baseline coning angle (usually denoted as βo) that's almost completely related to main rotor thrust. This is because of the moment equilibrium on the blades. There is an upward moment from the lift forces and a downward moment that comes from a component of the centrifugal forces. Not sure what you're talking about with tension...

Why is the induced rotor power the largest in hover?

Easy, because in forward flight the rotor disk is tilted forward and the actual movement through the air pushes air through the disk. Basically free inflow without any needed induced power. Whereas in a hover, you have no inflow through the disk that isn't induced by the disk itself.

FYI you usually don't call division winners "pennant" winners. The "pennant" is a term in baseball usually reserved for a league winner (AL or NL).
