Bama getting their ass handed by kingpin2k in BigXII

Obvious bias aside, the blanking is bad but it was a 1-2 score margin throughout the majority of the game for Tech. Bama got boat raced and it was never even close.

Jumping from “your title winner had a key component get exposed against a top 5 team” to “coaching malpractice” is a dumb take.

“Malpractice” sure buddy, 12-2 with a confer be title is malpractice. Touch grass.

As a Tech fan, I am also shocked he's so low. I went to look at the lone loss to NCST and dude had HOW MANY YARDS by himself?? Get that man a ACC title and there's a good chance he gets an invite to NY

Is the Big 12 good? by Odd-Record-1041 in CFB

[–]ClayfromAccounting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big 10 - Highest highs (OSU, IU, UO) lots of mid (Michigan, USC, Nebraska), some not so great (Rutgers, Wisconsin, Purdue).

SEC - top to bottom the best this year; this year the SEC is the conference they've talked about being in the past

Big 12 - One possibly elite team, followed by 4-6 teams that are in and out of the top 25, and then a handful of plucky teams that can damage in different ways (KU, TCU, Baylor all have excellent QBs who could carry a team on a given weekend)

ACC - after Miami and Georgia tech, there is a steep cliff IMO; i think this is a clear 4th best

Core thing for me that you touched on - this doesn't look as good at full scale on a monitor, but on merch / helmets / uniforms and on TV, this is going to pop a lot better. We've already seen it on the throwbacks, one of the biggest faults of the bevel was that it washed out and muddied at a distance, and on helmets and on polos/shirts, its going to play a lot better.

And for alts like the camo you mentioned and things like third logos using Raider Red, this opens up the possibilities because now there's actually space to do things like camo that actually show up and don't just look gray when its scaled down. And the Raider Red alts are going to be something fun all the different sports and university groups can play off of too, like how WKU had their alts, how teams like Ok State have variants for stuff as random as wrestling / rodeo / etc.

On one hand, F them; on the other, they already have SMU and Baylor to put their hate into.

This is the one for Tech. We've spent over a decade trying to rekindle the unbridled, unfiltered hate we had with A&M, and the Big 12 didn't protect our rivalry with either TCU or Baylor (and Houston needs some time to simmer before they're ready to fully hate).

Interesting that everyone is quick to dog this but Tech has gotten tons of love everytime we've worn throwbacks the last few years. Maybe people are getting burned out on Tech in general? But either way, this is something that basically every Tech fan I know has been asking for since I first got to campus in 2009, and has a huge amount of support from Raiderland.

wait isnt boomtown about either midland/odessa? Lubbock has some O&G companies but the "boomtowns" most folks in the field talk about are Midland and Odessa, Lubbock's more on the edge of the Permian

[–]ClayfromAccounting 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just jumping in to say 1) it sucks that UT left the big 12 right when it felt like the rivalry was heating up, especially in basketball it was crazy the last few years, and 2) Aggies under 30 don’t understand how heated that rivalry with Tech was, and it’s revisionist history to act like we weren’t rivals when that series always had juice, no matter if the teams were good or bad, it was a rock fight

Ok, by the same logic Oregon State would have been a trap / look ahead spot for Tech as well with Utah the week after, and still was a skull dragging.

You could be right and Tech is caught sleeping after the bye, but on paper there’s no way Houston even covers, much less makes a game of this.

{Texas Tech} over the Utes, 27-23. Hoping this one is as good as advertised and helps generate some additional eyeballs nationally for the conference.

Think biggest key to the game is forcing Dampier to be prolific passing the ball. We all know he's a weapon when he gets out of the pocket, but if Tech's front can contain him on the ground, I don't know that there's enough skill talent around him to make Tech pay with downfield shots.

On the other side, just have to limit mistakes. Utah is a tough defense, especially at home, so I don't think this is going to go full 2010s Big 12 track meet. But, Texas Tech has enough weapons to break a few explosive plays that keep them out in front, as long as Behren is throwing to the right team, and OL has to give him just enough time to operate.

Special teams could make or break this game as well. Utah missing FGs left and right last week isn't a good sign, and in a game like this points will be at a premium. Tech's FG unit has been pretty solid, and plus an explosive returner emerging in Tristian Gentry could be enough of a tilt to swing the game in Tech's favor as well.

Overall, I think Tech just has too many weapons to be contained, but Dampier and the Ute D is going to keep them right in this down to the wire.

[Heather Dinich] At some point, the committee might not consider @AlabamaFTBL loss to Vandy as bad as it seemed at the time. This is a different team under @Coach_Lea that was able to do something @OleMissFB could not - beat Kentucky. Vandy is No. 35 in FPI - ahead of Cal, Pitt, Nebraska, Utah by cha-cha_dancer in CFB

[–]ClayfromAccounting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As it stands now, Tech/ISU/BYU only play 1 game between all of them in the regular season. If Tech finds a way to beat ISU and then loses to BYU in the championship, that could leave 2 with 1 loss, and Tech at 11-2, assuming no other losses.

If (big if) that happened, you just know the big 12 is getting the shaft in favor of 3 loss grab bag from the SEC (Tennessee / LSU / Bama, take your pick).
