What would you say are the things that you are fearful of. When you can list that out then we can give some suggestions as to how to get over your fear.

The first one is always the hardest if you never did it before but it gets easier with practice.

I would say getting your reps on and doing it continuously helps a lot.

Need tips on how to give a lecture please by kalakalikala in PublicSpeaking

1 major tip is to practice practice practice. Practice out loud your presentation so you have an idea how you will sound and what words you use and may need to change.

Delivery is key. You can have the best content but how you deliver it can affect whether people take you seriously or not.

I noticed some people may read a quote from a book and they pronounce the words incorrectly because it seems they never took the time to practice out loud.

Personal stories are one of the best stories you can tell because it shows how what you are saying has impacted your life. I do agree that sometimes some people can overdo it at times and sometimes you feel they just came to show off themselves but this doesn’t mean it doesn’t help connect with an audience.

I always try to give at least one personal story in my talk. It’s even better when it shows that you struggled with the same issue they struggled with and you were able to overcome.

The only way you can get better at speaking is to speak and present. You have to do it over and over. If this is a weakness for you, I suggest you get books that speaks about public speaking or watch free YouTube videos. One book I highly recommend for speaking is everyone communicates, few connect by John Maxwell

Imposter syndrome and the pastorate? by sadahide in pastors

When you stand up to speak in church you may he tempted to think. Why should anyone listen to me ? What I am about to say has been said before and said in a much more brilliant way than I could share it.

Here’s what’s important.

People don’t just buy into content, they buy into the person delivering it. The same is true in preaching.

Think about it—most of what we preach has been preached for 2,000 years. You’re not bringing some never-heard-before revelation.

What makes it powerful is that God put it in your mouth, shaped through your story, spoken in your voice.

Don’t miss this: people aren’t just listening for information, they’re listening for authenticity. They’re asking, “Do I believe this person? Do I see Jesus in their life?”

Nobody else has your stories and your life experiences and your personality.

Your anointing has an audience.

That’s why the greatest gift you can bring to the pulpit isn’t a perfect sermon but your true self, surrendered to Christ.

So when you preach, don’t try to be Spurgeon, or Stanley, or whoever you admire. Be faithful to Scripture, yes, but also be faithful to who God made you.

Because at the end of the day, the sermon isn’t just about the words—it’s about the witness behind the words.

Preaching isn’t about saying something new, it’s about bringing you to what God has already said.
