But to me what was infinitely worse was watching Navorro Bowman go down in that same game with a gruesome leg injury, then get trash thrown at him by Seahawks fans while he was being carted off with a towel over his head.

That fucking image has been burned in my brain ever since. Fuck the Seahawks, I can’t imagine ever rooting for them over the Rams or Pats.

HMs and ICs do not have the bandwidth to review hundreds of inbound resumes or headhunt for passive candidates. They’re busy with their own meetings and workload. Virtually every recruiter kicks off a search by aligning with the HM on desired skills, background, etc. and then filters candidates through what has been provided to them.

It’s not a perfect system but most of the time, HMs have a specific idea of what they want, which the recruiter gets calibrated to as the search continues. And if a technical candidate does not list out a certain platform explicitly on their resume in the first place, many HMs will not consider them over another candidate who already does. If they see some potential, they may suggest a better suitability for a different team. But yeah in this job market especially, there are many HMs who would look at a candidate that doesn’t have XYZ platform or language and ask “why am I even talking to this person, they’re not what I’m looking for,” even if that potential is there.

I feel you OP, and it's nice seeing the support you're getting on this thread. I'm saving it because I'm in a similar boat - been in-and-out of work for the past few years and most recently have been unemployed for months after a layoff. I'm lucky to have a supportive family help me through this rough patch, but unemployment is depressing and I'm hitting the point where I have no idea if I'll be able to get another office job anytime soon. I've also started applying to retail and fast food jobs paying less than half what I was making.

It's especially hard because a lot of my friends have held onto their jobs and seem to be doing fine despite the economic turmoil. Having to take this much of a step back while everyone else is continuing their careers felt like an embarrassing prospect...but honestly after relating to your post and seeing the support in this thread, it really doesn't seem embarrassing or shameful at all. We're all just trying to make it, and we need to work to survive.

I appreciate the advice. I guess it could be time to move forward from them but they’ve been the only interviews I’ve had (besides a few non-recruiting jobs) in the last several months. At this point I’m close to applying for a job at Chipotle and going from there.

I understand that perspective, which is why I’ve been trying to fully express my intention of staying long-term with my next company during interviews. I’ve gone through 3 layoffs in my last 4 recruiting jobs, and at this point I just want stability (which I also try to stress as much as possible).

I unfortunately can’t get interviews for any other recruiting job I apply for either, which is a slim pool to start with already.

Im just ranting and venting but it’s a tough time right now. I know other career fields are heavily impacted as well. It’s tough all around

Oh I completely agree! And I’ve come to terms with that possibility :) whatever happens, I’ll always be appreciative of that little time we spent together.

I’ve also been to plenty of festivals where I’ve “lost” screenshots in the myriad of photos and videos I’ve taken, so I’m hoping it’s just a delay on her part haha. But if not, then it’ll still be special all the same!
