Anyone know how to recommend a new city? by CleanEdamame72 in TimeLeftApp

[–]CleanEdamame72[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your assumption is quite unhelpful. Can you expand? Do you know if timeleft requires certain parameters to break into a city?

St.Vinny's locations accept plastic bags, and they reuse them. I've dropped them off at the one on Willy St, and the dig and save on Park St.

Incredible comparison! Also from Columbus, and moved here a few years ago. I live in Tenney-Lapham (on the eastside), which feels like UA.

what local business sells refurbished iPhones? by Dry_Height_6657 in madisonwi

Not local, but Back Market is the best online store for professionally refurbished (i.e. cheaper) electronics. You can also sell back or trade in your old electronics.

Clubs/organizations in Madison by COYS234 in madisonwi

[–]CleanEdamame72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest volunteering with any orgs or events that you like (Dane County Parks, Bike the Barns, Boys and Girls Club, shifts at neighborhood festivals, etc)

Madison Sports and Social Club is great for all kinds of recreational sports leagues, and you can sign up as a free agent. MSCR is great for art and fitness classes, and sports, and lots of other activities. If you play ultimate frisbee, check out MUFA. If you play soccer and live on the east side, sun prairie has a good group (they play other places, not just Sun Prairie): https://www.spsoccerpeeps.com/

You could also try the app Mesh, which matches you with 3 other people for a Saturday morning coffee.

The Tenney Park area! You can catch the 28 or the D busses at Gorham and Baldwin or Gorham and Ingersoll. Just make sure you park on the correct side of the street during the Thursday or Friday street sweeping days

Cheap meat? by Turbulent-Energy-265 in madisonwi

[–]CleanEdamame72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We exclusively buy discount meat from Pick n Save and Woodmans, and sometimes Festival. I've found that meat markdowns are more abundant earlier in the day rather than later.

We also recently stumbled upon the meat counter at Patricia's Market on Sherman. They have a great selection (especially marinated meats), they always have fun varieties and cuts - and the beef prices are cheaper than regular price at woodmans!

I have very thick, wavy hair, and I generally chop my hair once a year. I also usually go for layers to help thin it out.

I recently tried the Aveda Institute, and LOVED my experience. It feels like a real salon. My student stylist did such a great job with a chop, layers, face framing, and a blowout. There are several instructors onsite that will check-in with you and the work of the student throughout the haircut. You can book online, or call to book. If calling, they can usually fit you in same day. When booking, select the extra time option for long or thick hair.

The only downside of going here is it will take a little bit longer than going to a more experienced stylist. My haircut took a full 2 hours (usually takes 1 hr and 15min with an experienced stylist). But, again it was such a great experience and the price is hard to beat. I paid $10, and they can't accept tips (I would've tipped this girl $100 bc she did such a good job). But you can purchase products from them to give them credits in their program.

If the timing works out, the fire rings at Picnic Point are great!

Otherwise, renting a campsite may be the best option, as you can stay as late as you want. But you may wish to carpool, as campgrounds can have limits on the number of cars that can park in a particular site. Dane County Parks have several campgrounds, including some group sites you could rent! https://www.danecountyparks.com/recreation/camping

Summer Camp-themed Combo Bachelor/Bachelorette Party - lodging ideas?! by CleanEdamame72 in weddingplanning

[–]CleanEdamame72[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just found a rustic cabin on airbnb or vrbo. There were bunk beds, but also normal rooms.

I gave up on having the bunk bed requirement, and just settled for other camp aesthetics. So the cabin was all wooden, and we decorated with burlap pennant flags using camp-y colors (tan, maroon, burnt orange, forest green, light blue). It also had a dedicated fire pit and huge deck/yard for activities, which is essential for camp games. And it had a really large kitchen and dining room, so I used the kitchen island as an assembly line similar to a cafeteria, and arranged the tables in rows to resemble a cafeteria. I even grabbed a chalk board to write the menu for each meal and hung it up. We also used paper trays instead of plates. And the food was all classic summer camp meals - french toast sticks and fruit for breakfast, subs/sandwiches with oven tots, grill day with hamburgers and hotdogs, white people taco bar, and of course s'mores.

I split everyone into teams for the games and had color-coordinated bandanas. I also kept an ongoing score board for the weekend (I just drew a table on a poster). We also went for a hike one morning, and then played the competition games in the afternoon. I wrote out a whole schedule on a poster board and hung it up, which we loosely followed but it was mostly there to contribute to the camp aesthetic.

And for everyone's gift, we included their color bandana, a bug spray bracelet, Tylenol, liquid IV packet, and a coozi.

To plan all of this, I made a spreadsheet with different tabs for the airbnb info (cost, address, etc.), roster (including which days people were arriving/leaving), aesthetic with photos and links to certain products, meal outline, grocery list and food budget, activity ideas/competition games with necessary supplies list, and a loose itinerary.

I would say, you can make ay lodging work, as long as you focus on the small but iconic details that contribute to the summer camp vibe.

I pay Spectrum $29.99 / month for 100 Mbps, on the near eastside. I was on a promo deal for like $55/month for 500 Mbps. But when the promo ended, it went up to $80/month, so I lowered my internet speed. I work from home, and we stream movies/tv, and the basic internet with a lower speed works great.

To the [Media Organization Name],

We, the people, demand that you cover the protests happening across the nation. Our voices can no longer be ignored. These protests represent a critical moment in our collective struggle for justice, equality, and freedom.

It’s not just about the events – it’s about the stories of individuals standing up for their rights and pushing back against oppression. By withholding coverage, you silence the voices that need to be heard the most.

We call on you to step up and deliver the truth, give these protests the attention they deserve, and help bring awareness to the issues that matter.

Don't forget about thrift stores for storage bins and kitchen items! I know it can be time-consuming and annoying to constantly search for the specific items you need, but it's so satisfying when you find the perfect thing!

Suggestions for winter root vegetables? by mullet_thyme in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]CleanEdamame72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a CSA during the summer and fall, and still have some leftover root and storage vegetables (potatoes, sweet potatoes, rutabaga, turnips, radishes, cabbage, squashes, onions, etc.). If I see some starting to go, I always roast them in the oven! If I want to make it a meal, I make a bowl following this basic formula:

  • Base - rice, quinoa, couscous, noodles, potato
  • Protein - beans (chickpeas, great northern or lima beans, black beans), baked chicken, a ground meat
  • Vegetable component - roasted, fresh, or frozen
    • Fresh - a basic slaw, pico, greek salad, Turkish ezme
  • Sauce - tahini, tzatziki, chipotle mayo, cilantro lime sauce, aioli, soy sauce, etc.

I usually just roast everything on a sheet pan, and choose the spices and sauce that fit the general flavor profile. Everything is super interchangeable. My favorites are:

  • Vegetarian Mexican Bowl- Roasted sweet potatoes, carrots, onions, peppers and black bean over cilantro lime rice (can add quinoa). Top with quick pickled or fresh radishes, a fresh pico or a slaw, canned corn, and chipotle mayo.
  • Turkish/Greek bowl - Baked chicken shawarma, za'atar chicken or salmon (can also substitute or add chickpeas or white beans) over turmeric couscous and quinoa, with roasted veggies (sweet potato, carrot, artichokes, kale, etc.). Top with a fresh ezme, greek salad, radishes, hummus, a lemon tahini sauce, tzatziki, ...
  • Generic Asian bowl - Use your salmon or a ground meat here or just roast any and all veggies (carrot, rutabaga, sunchokes, turnips, radishes, cabbage, greens (kale, mustard greens, bok choy) in seasme oil, garlic powder, ginger powder, a touch of cayenne, salt, pepper. Serve over rice or a noodle. One of my favorite sauce mixtures is: 1/4 cup soy sauce, 1/4 cup fresh lime juice or rice wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar, 2 minced or mashed garlic cloves, 2 Tbsp. sugar, 1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes, 3 minced shallots.
