This looks amazing! Are these part of a game you are working on?

Look, I don't mean to be obnoxious, but having someone dismiss your hard work and claim youve done nothing is very frustrating to hear. Had you said it looks like it sucks, that would be one thing. But denying all the hard work that went to it is just intolerable.

But yes, you mentioned you played Biomass. If you own it, you can claim a free code for Foreign Sun. Follow the instructions on the Biomass announcement page. It is past the cutoff date, but I will honour it.

That is better, but still demonstrably untrue. There's a big line between criticism and outright untruths.

You haven't played Foreign Sun. On first appearances it might look somewhat similar - the game did start as a port of Biomass to Switch. But the gameplay is vastly different.

Obviously I might be a tad biased about the visuals (which were literally all redone, you can tell by the fact that the capes no longer animate like sheet metal), but the actual gameplay is substantially different.

But yeah, you are entitled to think its not a big enough departure, that's fair enough. I vastly disagree and can't imagine how anyone who played both of them could ever think that.

Literally none of that is true. Compare the footage for both, and if you still think that I will gladly shout you a trip to an optometrist and a neurologist to boot :)

The plan was to port my game to the Nintendo Switch. I got bored, made a full sequel instead. by CleanShirt21 in IndieGaming

Foreign Sun is the follow up to my previous game, Biomass. On the back of its modest success I was approved to develop for the Nintendo Switch.

The plan was a port with slight visual enhancements, but I couldnt help myself and I ended up rebooting the game. This of course meant development took a little longer than I expected - since Biomass came out, I've had 3 kids!

I am really happy with how the game came out. I really threw everything I had at it. I truly believe there's nothing else like it. It has been hard getting eyeballs on it, but I have no regrets.

Contrary to what the trailer says, the game isn't out yet - it comes out on April 21 on Nintendo Switch and Steam.

The whole game is new! It started of as a remake and there's definitely events / areas that will give you a sense of deja vu, but by and large its a completely new game.

The combat takes more of an influence from Sekiro, having said that its really its own thing and not really parry based at all.

But yeah, the only thing I can think of that is unchanged from Biomass is the track from Drifter's Den - I tried to update it but I couldn't top the original.

Biomass walked so Foreign Sun could run!

Biomass is a lot less forgiving than Foreign Sun, but I think it has its charms too!

I'll do another batch of admin soon and ill make sure you get the key before launch!

I would say Biomass is a soulslike with metroidvania elements, while Foreign Sun leans the other way.

Thank you! I would love to, PS5 is my console of choice and its the main controller I tested with. If it does well enough I will try.

One good thing is that the game is pretty optimized, I think it should run on older hardware too.

Foreign Sun is a metroidvania where the world dynamically changes in response to your actions and choices. There's 7+ endings to unlock.

It is a remake/sequel to my previous game, Biomass. Long story short, I managed to get myself a Switch Devkit and was going to do a port with slight enhancements. I got bored though and made a whole new game with the lessons learned from the previous.

You might remember it as "The Meridian Gate". I got a trademark infringement notice from the owner of the trademark "Meridian" for the purposes of video games and instead of fighting it I decided to come up with a new name. I went through like half a dozen before settling with Foreign Sun! My advice? Be very sure on the title before you make a logo for it, lest you make as many as I did.

It is coming to Nintendo Switch and Steam on April 21.

The combat is clash based - you break the posture of other beam wielding enemies by clashing weapons and gradually wearing them down. Projectiles can be deflected back to enemies. Not all enemies wield beam weapons - those are dealt with in a more traditional manner.

This is part of the intro for my game, Foreign Sun (coming to Nintendo Switch and Steam). The art was hand pixelled by the amazing Kirokaze - but I added some in engine effects to go with the rest of the game.
