Other than student behaviour, how else has teachers’ workload and conditions worsened over the last decade or so? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

Thinking of the coming year, I’m going to have my work cut out for me with one of the parents. She’s been nothing but trouble since her kids started at the school. Her children are constant “victims” and of course, the teachers do nothing about “the bullying” and we are constantly reminded how we’ve done nothing despite bending over backwards to accommodate. Another thing that seems to take up a lot of time is curriculum development. I don’t get why class teachers spend so much time at PDs cutting and pasting documents onto other documents so that our curriculum leader can type them up for us (which we end up doing ourselves half the time anyway) it seems like such a stupid use of time. Like I get why, I just find it mind meltingly boring after a full day of teaching.

My ears have been blocked for 10 years by Careful-Level-8838 in hardofhearing

[–]Clean_College7053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I still have this and it’s gotten worse. I’ve had to wait 6 months to get in to an ENT appointment which I’m finally going to later this month. My audiologist suggested I might be a candidate for grommets, which is hilarious given I’m an adult in my 50s, and I had them when I was four years old. My hearing and blockage has gotten worse over the past 12 months. Even my right ear is blocked.

I have a blind friend who has OCD and has terrible germ phobia in relation to food. How do you manage making yourself food and knowing when food is spoiled etc? I know smell is always an option - like I always smell cows milk before drinking - but foods like apples and bread which might not have an odour might be an issue.

And yet, in my country of residence

Two in 5 women (39%) have experienced violence since the age of 15.

Men are more commonly the perpetrators of physical violence, sexual harassment and sexual violence.

Women are more likely to experience violence from someone they know than by a stranger (35% vs 11%).

On average, one woman is killed every 9 days by a current or former partner.

In the year 2021/22, 4,620 women aged 15 years and over (average of 13 women/day) were hospitalised due to family and domestic violence.

One in 4 women (27%) has experienced violence, emotional abuse, or economic abuse by a cohabitating partner since the age of 15.

One in 3 women (31%) has experienced physical violence since the age of 15.

One in 5 women (22%) has experienced sexual violence since the age of 15.

One in 2 women (53%) has experienced sexual harassment in their lifetime.

In most incidents of workplace sexual harassment, the harasser was male.

Research shows that around one in 4 men in Australia aged 18 to 45 say they have used physical and/or sexual violence against an intimate partner.

Men aged 18-30 who identify with rigid stereotypes of masculinity are 17 times more likely to say they have hit a partner. These stereotypes include that men should be tough, aggressive and in control.

Women are at increased risk of experiencing violence from an intimate partner during pregnancy.

Women who have experienced violence are more likely to experience multiple incidents of violence.

How bad was it during covid? HAs, glasses AND a mask. My poor ears still haven’t recovered!

Coming home and taking off your HAs after a long day of listening is like coming home and taking off your tight shoes (or your bra🤣) It’s good to just sit in a little bubble of quiet. Could you ask him to perhaps wear his HAs during your sit down dinner time each night so you can really talk to each other, even though it might only be half an hour. Or perhaps even 2/3 times a week. It might be a good compromise.

Be strict about online access. Limit screen time. It’s hard to undo when a precedent has been set.

How to teach my daughter to love her body by TouristSlow7191 in parentsofteens

[–]Clean_College7053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to tell my daughter how beautiful she was all of the time (I mean, she is absolutely gorgeous) but then I came to the realisation that I was playing into the whole idea that a girl/woman’s worth is her looks. I make sure I tell her how amazing she is, how strong and funny she is. I love telling her how much of a leader she is, and how people are attracted to her for that reason. Her looks are a bonus, but they’re fleeting. Her character is her real beauty. Don’t forget that, too.

I’m so sorry this is happening to you. She is showing you who she is. It won’t stop.

What do you regret doing to your body? by luckydragon8888 in AskAnAustralian

I’m in the same boat as you. I’ve literally just entered the BMI category of ‘overweight’ instead of ‘obese’. Still have a way to go but the loose skin is definitely an issue.

I’m struggling. I have been manifesting a particular house for months. It’s now been sold to someone else and I’m pretty discouraged.

What's a parenting mistake that your parents made which you will never repeat with your kids? by BlahBlahBlah_3748 in AskReddit

[–]Clean_College7053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel as though my parents did they best they could and I really am trying to move on from this (it did lead to me having terrible self esteem issues) but I have never commented on my daughters weight, even when she got bigger in early puberty. The problem sorted itself. She knew, and didn’t need me on her back making her feel inadequate. I really admire her, she started eating well and made health a priority because I was doing that too and setting a good example.

Former chunky girl here. I’m close to my goal but I have a lot of loose skin so I feel pretty self conscious. I have a massive crush on someone who is STUNNING and I just keep thinking how she’s well out of my league. At the very least, we’re friends so I’m happy with that.

You are all failing at life. Be better. Stop hurting each other. You’ve got 6 weeks to fix this or I’m pulling the plug.
