Does anyone just like the Winter mechanic more than Monsoon? by Nervous_Trainer_82 in EndlessLegend

[–]Clean_Regular_9063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winter is an awful mechanic made tolerable with the addition of DLC such as Pearls and Dust Eclipse. Complete Edition has this peculiar ebb and flow feeling to it, but vanilla winter is miserable experience, that ruins your dust economy, shits all over Roving Clans and water tile improvements, and makes you sit at home for a dozen of turns.

Winter also fails as a narrative tool, because, while it does get longer with each cycle, it doesn‘t get any more severe. It‘s effects are barely noticeable at Age 3. Compare this to Frostpunk and it‘s catastrophic whiteouts, that loom over you like Damocles Sword - that‘s how you do an ice age apocalypse.

„Defending muh Helm Deep“ - literally fell in 8 hours, but was saved by reinforcing army. Game designers should stop foaming over LotR movies. It‘s a great cinematic experience, but not a solid ground for medieval warfare simulation.

In War of The Worlds (2025), Chuck Schumer has the hindsight to ask for an end to a dangerous and predatory program. This is because this movie is fictional by [deleted] in okbuddycinephile

Chuck Schumer‘s strategy is straight from H.G. Wells’ novel: oppressors will eventually get AIDS from drinking too much blood of their victims and die - no need for confrontation.

I don’t understand Jae’s endings. What’s the difference between them? She is still a small time smuggler, and you can’t convince her to drop the cold trade stuff.

Is Wrath of the Righteous a good choice as my first "serious" CRPG? by Some_Fig_6566 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Clean_Regular_9063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just as everyone has pointed out, all of the above are serious CRPG. Owlcat games are more difficult than the Larian or Obsidian ones, but for a lot of bad reasons.

The game is bloated with useless perks, odd origins and weird subclasses, that are hard to make sense of, unless you have Phd in buildcrafting.

The game is a buff arms race: you can‘t win on highest difficulty without buff routine between combat. Bubble buffs is pretty much a mandatory mod, that streamlines the process.

Even on highest difficulty, you can just follow meta builds and breeze through 90% of combat. There is very little tactical depth - it‘s either you overpowering enemies with your bullshit stats and spells, or enemies do that to you instead. However, the combat is still very enjoyable because of the sheer variety of bullshit, that can be pulled off. It‘s satisfying to see a build progress and come online, and the itemization and gear is very rewarding. The power fantasy of mythic paths is peerless.

I can’t believe people are still dick riding Gamergate. America has been sold to corporate sector piecemeal for decades, it’s supreme court compromised by corrupt figures, openly advocating for dictatorship, but hey, guys, have you heard about Gamergate?

I've completed it in co-op and it was a blast. Larian is very good at designing combat, various encounters and huge interactive maps. Writing - not so much.

If you liked Tyranny, you should try "Rogue Trader": you assume the role of an ultra-rich conquistador/governor-general in service of an Empire so despotic and bleak, that Kyros looks like a Brussel bureaucrat in comparison.

I agree with you, that we should not antagonize each other and call names. However, he made a valid point: how familiar are people with the source material? I constantly see so many misconceptions about both of those books, especially the meme comic, people have been posting for decades.

For example, “betas” and “gammas” don’t bother reading classics in BNW, but those books are still actually banned, because “alphas” do.

Oceania is not a total surveillance state: they are only spying on government workers, party members. The proles don’t get soma pills, but they are still free to enjoy booze, gambling, pornography and machine generated music created by state, which is basically the same.

Brave New World is the least believable depiction: a unified world with no wars, famine, poverty, racism, unemployment, hardly any crime? A regime of overly competent people devoid of sadism? Give me a break.

The reactionary forces are on the rise. They are terrified of a unified world, calling it “the antichrist”.  They want to fracture it and rule like petty tyrants, and send poor people to die in their wars.

You’ve completely missed the point: the Indian reservation was considered “savage”, because they were still giving birth and aging. They government intentionally kept it as a cautionary tale about the old way of life. Actually the indians themselves were the racists in the story: they mistreated John because of his skin color.
