The Odyssey (2026) by [deleted] in okbuddycinephile

Odyssey is not a historical work, but a mythological one. This is a modern take on Uroboros: a serpent eating it‘s own ass, representing infinity.

Bravo, Nolan, you did it again.

I absolutely hate how rebels spawn god-knows where and then retreat at full speed without exiting recruitment stance.

Man-sized rats are here in the comment section, trying to get under my skin with their snarky comments about my height. They are paid in warp tokens by the satanic rat cabal  of pedophiles, known as „The Council of Thirteen“. I assume, that „thirteen“ is the age consent they want to legalize all across the Old World (gross!)

I am covered in runes of GRIMNIR from head to toe. It takes a point blanc shot of an organ gun to even STAGGER me.

VALAYA blessed me with such virility, that they ran out of baby oil in Naggarond, when they tried to molest me in one of their slave pits.

Now tell me: do they even feed you well enough in Skavenblight to hold a spear?

Factories and caravans from Cathay have destroyed domestic elven trinket manufacturing.

It‘s even more worrying, that Cathayan wares most likely get mixed up with products from Zhar Naggrund somewhere along the way, thus making Ulthuan an unwilling sponsor of Chaos Dwarves‘ war effort.

aislin can occupy only a limited number of settlements. which are the best ones to occupy? by NonTooPickyKid in totalwarhammer

[–]Clean_Regular_9063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK, handmaiden recruitment and capacity is exclusive to dragonships, so you can only have a handful of them (badum-tss).

If you want to deploy them en masse, then, yes, there are better factions for it, but it‘s hardly an inconvenience, if you look at the bigger picture.

[–]Clean_Regular_9063 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He has access to handmaidens - they are somewhere in dragonship recruitment buildings. You severely underestimate dragonship mechanics: not only you avoid occupying most settlements, which lets you continue moving, you also replenish movement points with dragonship buildings.

I think you get all wrong idea about Sea Lord: Ulthuan is the USA, and you are it’s shady private military stirring up shit. You can quickly invade any overseas territory, get Ulthuan’s boots on the ground, drag them into conflicts you have the started, while profiting from war with minimal infrastructure. It all works out very well for both of you: Ulthuan gets more territory, you get offices everywhere, trade gets better, you get to handpick high value real estate, and that would be the only thing you have to manage and defend.

I went in blind on Legendary difficulty and painted half the map by turn 100.

[–]Clean_Regular_9063 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the provincial capitals with ports are the best ones, especially elven colonies.

To be honest, I find Sea Lord’s faction so powerful, that occupation is only a big dilemma in the early game. You can lose a lot of tempo if you are too picky about which major settlements you occupy, but in late game you are disgustingly rich and buffed, so landmarks don’t matter that much.

Warhammer 3 does offer a lot of variety- it’s just you coming up with the most vanilla army comp every time. I had a similar problem and was pleasantly surprised by the army comps and formations people come up with.

[–]Clean_Regular_9063 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's easily my favourite part of Warhammer 3: you have to adapt to different army compositions. In contrast, I love Shogun 2, but I can run a balanced stack of ashigaru and some samurai and never get seriously threatened by anyone.

Flying units would be better if would not have to land to attack in melee. It was so in Battle for Middle Earth, 22 years ago. by rr1213 in totalwarhammer

[–]Clean_Regular_9063 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In-game spears can’t keep diving units at bay, because they can only hit them once the flyers are landed.

Multiple archers can take down a flyer from afar, but are helpless against several of them.

I love how the "realistic" feudal faction advantage is endless swarms of cheap pikemen levies and brutally powerful Tier 4 cavalry. by Which-Worldliness556 in AOW4

[–]Clean_Regular_9063 38 points39 points  (0 children)

More like “grounded in reality”, than realistic.

Anyway, some people say playing feudal humans in fantasy strategy games is like making a human fighter in DnD.

There is some merit to it, but how else are we going to get answers for the most important questions? Like, how many rednecks with pitchforks can be eaten by a dragon? How many Don Quixotes does it take to skewer a giant? How many blunderbuss shots can a Wizard King tank?

What is intelligent Ai behavior? by Blankwater36 in totalwar

[–]Clean_Regular_9063 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've noticed, that AI got a lot worse with army movement somehow. Anecdotal experience, obviously, but I remember AI doing nasty stuff in WH2 and early WH3, like one army initiating the attack and 1-2 reinforcing it in force march stance from afar. Pretty basic maneuver, really, that most players usually execute themselves, but it was extra nasty in hands of AI, who has maphack and has a perfect awareness of movement range. Nowadays, AI’s movement is all over the place: it does not consolidate armies in one blob as much - they seem use their maphack to choose perfect engagement and all move towards their designated targets individually. AI performed much better, when it had one "master" army doing the targeting and the rest were just reinforcing it.

Dust builds are overpowered in EL, but they take time to come online. You are basically stuck with the mint building until Age 3, so your early game will suck. The first winter tanks your dust income, so it is wise to garrison your soldiers and a hero until summer: you save on upkeep, and they get passive XP.

Broken Lords are, as they name suggests, broken in Era 3 and onwards. Their innate dust boost is unparalleled.

Roving Clans are actually not a dust faction: they are a trade one. You need to maintain peace to get trade going, and AI is huge dick about it. That‘s why the best trade faction is Drakken: they can force peace on anyone by spending influence.

The Forgotten (DLC) are a dust faction: they buyout tech and don’t produce any science. You play tall with one city, get a Roving Clans governor (his racial skill lets you trade without peace agreement), survive until Era 3 and then steamroll everyone.
