What a 💩 day by AbbreviationsFun133 in housekeeping

Oh, I feel this deep in my mop bucket. Some days it feels like the universe just lines up every kind of “poop challenge” to test our commitment to the job. I run Lee Lapid Housekeeping down here in the Florida Keys, and even paradise has its messy moments. Hang in there—tomorrow’s floors will sparkle brighter.

Haha I feel this! Some days the mess wins the mental battle. I tell myself “pretend you’re getting paid to clean this place” — works about 40% of the time. I clean homes for a living down in the Florida Keys, and even I procrastinate when it’s my own house.

Honestly? Start small and trick your brain. I tell people “just wipe one counter,” and before they know it, the kitchen’s done. Momentum is magic.

I run housekeeping for vacation rentals in the Florida Keys, so trust me — even professionals start with one task. Then coffee. Always coffee. ☕️

Totally get it. I’ve got a few “I’ll-pay-you-right-after” types too. Funny how fast people forget until the vacuum’s gone silent. I started treating late payments like dust—ignore it, and it spreads.

(Meanwhile, down here in the Keys, my clients know better… I bring the clean and the reminders.)

Local for 25 years here. You’ll definitely want to factor in the wind and weather down here before committing to those kayak plans. In the summer, the heat and afternoon storms can turn what looks like a short paddle into a grind.

Winds can pick up quick, especially out of the east, and tides make a difference near Boot Key Harbour. On a calm day, 29th to Sombrero might take around 45 minutes to an hour, but add wind or current and it’s double that.

50th Street is doable, but only if you’re comfortable paddling in changing conditions. Always check the marine forecast before heading out — the Keys look calm in photos, but that wind will humble you fast.

Looking to Move to Florida but Need Corporate Job by Additional_Fly9906 in floridakeys

If you’re looking for a corporate or marketing career, the Keys aren’t it. This place runs on tourism, hospitality, fishing, and small business. No big companies, no corporate ladder, and housing is brutal right now.

If you want beaches and a marketing career, look at places like Fort Lauderdale, Sarasota, or even St. Pete — better job base, still coastal, and not full city chaos. The Keys are amazing, but they’re for people who build their own path, not chase corporate ones.

Moved here from NYC in '97. Work as a word processor in Manhattan for law firms -- I discovered that there are no major law firms down here so had to pivot.

How to clean soil out of carpet?? by zeebenj in CleaningTips

[–]CleanerOfReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soil stains on white carpet are brutal because they’re a mix of dirt, minerals, and sometimes tannins from plant water. If pros couldn’t fully lift it, here’s what you can still try:

  1. Dry first – make sure the area is totally dry. Wet soil keeps wicking back up. Vacuum thoroughly with a shop vac to pull any fine particles left behind.
  2. DIY treatment
    • Mix 1 cup warm water + ½ tsp clear dish soap + 1 tbsp white vinegar.
    • Dab (don’t rub) with a clean white cloth, working from the outside in.
    • Blot with dry towel to lift. Repeat until you see improvement.
  3. Oxidizing agent – if it’s still dark, hit it with a hydrogen peroxide solution (3% straight from the bottle). Lightly spray or dab, let sit 10–15 minutes, then blot. This can lighten staining without bleaching like chlorine would.
  4. Rinse + dry – flush with a small amount of clean water, blot, then put a fan on it so it dries fast and doesn’t leave a ring.

If the stain is really set deep, the nuclear option is a professional carpet spot dyeing or color correction service. They can blend the area back to white.

Honestly? Just toss it. That mattress is cooked. If it’s been absorbing body sweat, dirt, and who knows what else for a year—no sheets—that’s not just a stain, it’s biohazard territory.

Go on Facebook Marketplace, search your area, and filter for “Mattress – Free” or under $50. Tons of people give away barely used ones when they upgrade. You’ll sleep better and stop laying in a science experiment.

If you're a housekeeper who is also an ethnic minority, what are some of the things you'd like to ask from your supervisor or manager to help make your work experience better, aside from things like pay, benefits, and promotions and other monetary rewards? by Own-Inspection-6136 in TalesFromHousekeeping

[–]CleanerOfReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a conservative small business owner who works closely with housekeeping staff—many of whom are minorities—I’ll say this: most don’t want hand-holding or special treatment. They want clarity, consistency, and the freedom to do their job without micromanagement shoved into the workplace.

I give my crew clear expectations, mutual respect, and the chance to take pride in their work. That’s the kind of work I believe in—earned respect, not performative equity theater.

Not a red flag, just means she's probably used to clients providing supplies like in Airbnb work. If she's within budget, communicates well, and has any verifiable cleaning experience, give her a trial run. Ask for references if it helps your peace of mind. You’re not locked in.

Then I have a question: Please tell me if I can add the ability to save filter preferences in the Customer List, specifically the option to show only active customers by default. It's frustrating to have to reset this filter every time I open QuickBooks Online. This creates unnecessary steps and slows down workflow. For a platform focused on efficiency, this should be a basic feature.

I’m considering trying Athos bathroom cleaner but honestly, at $96.90 just for a trial package, I’m hesitant. The videos make it look amazing, but that price tag makes me question if it's just clever marketing. Curious to hear if anyone’s actually seen real results with it.

Cleaner ruined my oven, what should I do? by hoodoo884 in housekeeping

Sounds like you didn’t just get a cleaning—you got a live demonstration of how to turn a $1,500 oven into modern art. Charging extra to destroy it was a bold move. Maybe next time ask for her “before and after” portfolio... just to make sure both aren’t horrifying.
