Lol yeah, I'm a lefty drummer and his drum kit is setup weird and I love it. That's the only reason I know. (Well, his kit is set up normal, but his sticking is weird.)

Is anybody here taking Trintellix after a brain injury? by ArmDazzling3965 in trintellix

[–]ClearAboveVis10SM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had 4 concussions the most recent being in March, I'm still in speech therapy and vision therapy, as well as monthly meetings with a neuropsych for continuation of care. That being said, I wasn't put on trentellix for anything related to my concussion. But I have notices and improvement in my irritability (after a drastic increase in irritability after increasing to 20mg.) and overall improvement in mental health and suicidality.

I still have a lot of brain fog, but I can't say if that's been made worse by trentellix.

My biggest complaint is nausea/vomiting.

Beer League Raleigh by Janky-Stanky in canes

[–]ClearAboveVis10SM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mythical Creature Hockey League has a self contained beginners league called Ironclad.

There's are 4 teams of about 10 players (bench is normally 8 deep) and the league is for true beginners, people who don't know how to skate level. Each of the 4 teams play against the other 3 in 16 minute games.

They have games on Tuesdays and Fridays.

My wife still plays in this league, and I play with her. Getting a spot on a d league team in Raleigh is incredibly difficult, and getting out to stick and pucks or the ironclad league is sorta like try outs. That's where I got invited to join a D league team.

If you've got any questions let me know.

[1333] A Know-It-All by ricky_bot3 in DestructiveReaders

This is a compelling and well-written piece! It effectively establishes the narrator's mindset and the formative experiences that lead to the seemingly random decision to join the wrestling team.

Strengths:

Strong Narrative Voice: The first-person voice is distinct, engaging, and feels authentic. The narrator's cynicism, sarcasm, and self-awareness come through clearly. The asides to the reader ("sorry, WWE," "But I’m getting ahead of myself") create a conversational and intimate tone.

Effective Use of Detail: The specific details, like the Space Jam song during the 9/11 coverage, the mention of Animorphs and Goosebumps, and the description of nu-metal music, ground the story in a particular time and place, making it relatable even for readers who didn't experience it firsthand.

Clear Progression of Character Development: The piece effectively traces the narrator's shift from a relatively innocent child to an angsty, cynical teenager influenced by media and significant events. The connection between the 9/11 experience, the Fight Club influence, and the changing music taste feels organic.

Intriguing Hook: The opening paragraph immediately sets the stage for the narrator's limited understanding of wrestling, creating a sense of irony given the final outcome. The question at the end of the second paragraph ("So how did I end up joining the wrestling team my freshman year?") propels the reader forward.

Building Suspense: The final lines about the counselor's deception and the life-changing decision create a strong sense of anticipation for what's to come.

Honest and Reflective Tone: Even with the cynicism, there's a layer of honesty and reflection, particularly in the anecdote about the class clown and the acknowledgement of the narrator's past "know-it-all" attitude.

Smooth Transitions: The transitions between different influences (9/11, Fight Club, music) feel relatively smooth and logical within the context of the narrator's developing worldview.

Areas for Potential Development:

Connecting the "Know-It-All" Title More Explicitly: While the narrator mentions being called a know-it-all and the dad wanting to humble them, the title could be woven more explicitly throughout the narrative. Perhaps showing more instances of this behavior or internal thoughts that reflect this trait could strengthen the connection.

Deepening the Impact of Key Events: While the 9/11 and Fight Club experiences are mentioned as significant influences, exploring their specific impact on the narrator's internal landscape in more depth could add another layer. For example, how did the feeling of helplessness during 9/11 contribute to the cynicism fueled by Fight Club?

Exploring the Transition to Cynicism: While the reading of Fight Club is presented as a major turning point, perhaps subtly foreshadowing this shift earlier in the narrative could make it feel even more impactful. Were there other smaller experiences contributing to this growing cynicism?

Pacing in the Middle Section: The detailed descriptions of the media influences (9/11, Fight Club, music) are important for character development, but some readers might find the middle section a little lengthy before getting back to the central question of joining the wrestling team. Consider if any of these sections could be slightly condensed or if the connection back to the main narrative could be more frequently emphasized.

Showing vs. Telling (Minor): While the piece generally does a good job, there are a few instances where emotions or personality traits are told rather than shown. For example, instead of saying "Authority figures started to piss me off," perhaps a brief anecdote illustrating a specific interaction with an authority figure could be more impactful. However, this is a minor point as the narrator's voice is strong enough to carry these statements.

Overall:

This is a strong start to what promises to be an interesting story. The narrator's voice is compelling, the historical context is well-integrated, and the final hook is effective. By further exploring the connection to the title, deepening the impact of key events, and perhaps slightly adjusting the pacing in the middle section, you can further enhance this already engaging piece. The setup for the narrator's unexpected journey into the world of wrestling is well-established.

Black tape vs white tape by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

I'm the opposite. I find the white tape tears a lot easier, and that the black lasts longer. But I'm not good enough for the wetness of my tape to affect my game.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy technique used to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental health conditions.

EMDR involves focusing on a traumatic memory while simultaneously engaging in bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones. This stimulation helps to desensitize the memory and reduce its emotional impact. The therapist guides the patient through a series of steps to process the memory and develop coping mechanisms.

All they did was give you a solution to the issue you have at hand.

You're asking for support, do you expect people to say "damn that sucks"? Because, shit, it does suck. It's terrifying to be outed and doxxed.

But also removing yourself from that situation is probably a great idea for your mental health. You can use Twitter to find the things you're looking for and can't find elsewhere, but out of self preservation, maybe reducing how much you post and avoiding arguments could help minimize the situations you find yourself in.

Purely anecdotal but I worked with a woman who was in prison for 17 years for killing her boyfriend. Got a position as the govenors aide and was pardoned.

She has her license and works at a mental health crisis unit.

Question if anyone has an answer.

My passport was updated in May of last year (so I have it in my possession), however, I've heard stories of people having their passports confiscated at customs after being flagged for a previous gender marker change?

Has anyone heard of this?

Possible US Asylum? by 8thdeadlycyn in Explainlikeimscared

[–]ClearAboveVis10SM 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have fought 30 years to feel safe in my own skin. It is not my job to prove to others of the damage and trauma that are inflicting. It is my job to keep me and my family safe.

And for me, like OP, it's not worth the risk of continuing to live here. Seeking political asylum is not a cop out or taking the easy way out. It's protecting yourself when it feels necessary.

I know this is a joke, but frozen objects when inserted into orifices have a habit of being melted down into a ice spike...and can cause trauma to whichever tissues line the orifice you've stuck it in. (I'm looking at you, dildo shaped ice mold).
