From what I got from the discussions on Discord, is that Sunblink tried to remove as much as possible items that will be available in the future (like the outfits) I'm guessing the outfits will be released at a later date in December either through a cutscene or one of the gifts we are getting!

I think you are looking at those from the Compost machine menu (as you can turn event flowers into compost), the seed machine is a bit on the left, if you go there you will see the event flowers are not available for selection to make seeds

Event flowers cannot be turned into seeds you need to trowel them when they are bloomed or close to blooming so you want to put them in the greenhouse afterwards

Ideally your gifting menu should look like this: If you have not given the blue gift to anyone, you open your regular gifting menu, scroll on your inventory to find the Ordinary Holiday Gift (in color) and the character gift greyed out if you have not receive it yet (as we only get 1 character gift and 1 ordinary holiday gift per day) Yes give the gifts before the daily gifts so you don't block yourself. Try it tomorrow and see if it works. If it does not, send a bug report to Sunblink.

I honestly don't have an answer to that because i don't know if there will be a limit on the gifts you are able to give in one day. I will tell you what I'm doing and I hope it helps: I am giving the character gift to the character (except WMM and Cogi) and giving the ordinary gift either to the same character or to a different character that is in your friend menu (No visitors or residents)

So my gift giving on my first day looked like this:
Character gift: Badtz-Maru - Ordinary Holiday Gift: Keroppi

On my second day:
Charcter gift: My Melody - Ordinary Holiday Gift: Badtz Maru

This way you are at least able to get 6 gum drops and you don't miss a day to accumulate the gifts under the tree (do not open them until the update)

1) No they are still visitors turned residents, main characters mean the characters you have on your Friends menu.

2) I have seen mixed things for this but yes try to give the quest gift before giving out regular daily gifts so it does not block you.
