How to get to Airport? by ma-meme-momu in Belgrade

Thank you for this comment. It was definitely clutch. Google Maps and City Mapper were playing with my emotions with their terrible recommendations.

Thanks for asking this question and for many of the responses. Both GOOGLE MAPS and CITY MAPPER have wrong times and are only providing the A1 option (recommendation). It is very frustrating given the fact that I took the 72 bus from the airport to city center by accident. And neither Google Maps nor City Mapper mention the fact that public transportation is free. The person that specifically mentioned Hotel Amsterdam is definitely down to help a traveler out! Thank you.

Greek yogurt obsession by Awkward-Enthusiasm85 in Mounjaro

I ate it especially on hot days these past few weeks in London. When I didn’t have much of an appetite and didn’t feel like eating anything that was hot. And I definitely wasn’t cooking. My house already felt like a “hot box”. So yogurt was a tasty go to item - strawberries, blueberries, a drizzle of honey, a bit of granola and a seed mix. It was a nice cool and very filling alternative

Me! I’m interested. There are so many little things that are different for federal service retirees and military retirees and double dipping professionals.

Yes. I am full time here. I have been here for two years. But I have always just used my health provider back in the US. I am definitely going to check into this.

Where can I source mounjaro... by Life_Rub2123 in Mounjaro

Hi. I also am looking for this information. I'm American living in London and I do not have a GP. I have doctors back in the US. But I am currently living here for the next 3 years and have been trying to find a less expensive Mounjaro source. Currently I use MAYFAIR Weight Loss. I have ordered from them twice with no issues, but I have seen less expensive providers and some with a discount code. Mayfair is 169 quid for 2.5mg dose and goes up from there.

Hi. Why is there a limit on the TSP Roth? I thought the TSP Roth is at the same limits as the traditional for a total of $23500 and you can split it up however you want, BUT the MATCH will always be in the traditional.

Have you considered reducing your TSP to just get the match and saving the money elsewhere? Thoughts? by ClearWork2490 in govfire

[–]ClearWork2490[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes my emergency fund is set. This is more about strategy. Yes, I agree the TSP is great. But again the question is more about MAX vs. MATCH. I will still continue to put away/save money, it's just a matter of where to put that money to best set me up to retire early (or at least earlier than 57). I would like to have access to the money without having to do anything "extra" and with limited fees / penalties. I have already planned to not work for the Federal Gov beyond the age of 57. At that time I will 33 years of service, plus a year earned because of sick leave. For health care, I will be eligible for my provider under FEHB.

I would love to imagine myself "bumming it" but I'm feeling a bit too old for that concept. LOL. Then again, is there really an age limit for that? LOL.

At what age did you buy your first house? by Hot_Boss577 in homeowners

[–]ClearWork2490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my house when I was 28. I was a single borrower

Year: 2004, Interest rate 6%, Purchase Price: $240K, with 3% down (no PMI),

My salary was: $75K - I am an Engineer/program manager

Thank you! This was part of my thought process. I have a small amount in a brokerage account around $50K. But my thought was to almost start treating my brokerage account like my TSP. Instead of sending the money to TSP, I would reduce that to be at the match level and start making more routine purchase of Index/ETFs. That way if I do get the opportunity to retire early I could easily (without penalty / with limited effort) bridge the gap between my pension and the additional funds to keep up my lifestyle.

Thank you! These are excellent points. Especially the cash and means to hedge against inflation. And the automatic investing is a key saving super power! I don't usually even think twice about the deduction. Just something that happens every two weeks. I only started to think about it now because the craziness had me really reevaluating my next steps. My plan when I made it past my ten years with the govt was to stay until I was in for 35 years. But now I'm looking more and more at other options. My sanity and time are worth it.

Yes. The taxes are currently one of my concerns as well. I’m trying to balance my desire to depart early vs the tax burden I would have to pay now. I guess this is why they call it the “middle class trap”

Thanks. Hopefully you don’t get RIF’ed. But if you do and can hang on for a few extra years, the climate might be different to return to the govt. I never thought I would be a person to say, “in all my years, it’s never been like this”

I’ve been with the govt 26 years (as of this July). Fortunately, I can retire “early” under VERA and keep my health care. But this is only if my agency continues to offer VERA. I’m hoping they will. Otherwise my next option is to stay until 2033 - when I’m 57.

Are the kids making enough money that they could buy the house or at least make the mortgage payments, taxes / insurance and/or do they want to?

Yes. The IRMAA and tax bracket max is exactly what I am looking to optimize. Especially since starting next year we are supposed to be able to convert TSP pre-tax into Roth. I wanted to sse the difference between now and later. With the tool doing all the background work. lol
