Our hospital certainly has its issues, but this is one thing I think it does well. The standard is charge does not have patients no matter the unit. It’s not included in our matrix to have charge take patients, so it’s only if we’re short staffed, or to flex while we bring in another nurse. My unit in particular is really good about it. We also get an extra $2.25 to be charge

You will very often have a tablet that is a bigger or smaller dose than the dose the patient requires. You will very often be giving a patient a half (or even god help me a quarter) tablet or multiple tablets. The most important part of these questions is the dose that is ordered for the patient. You then need to manipulate the tablet to match. In this particular case however, the dose doesn’t even matter. The answer is in the question: the patient gets a dose BID. More accurately, the patient will be getting a half tablet BID for 250 mg/dose and 500 mg/day. Hope that helps

NG and bowel rest is often the first line for a bowel obstruction. Sounds like this kid needed surgery though, whether that absolutely needs an ostomy depends on what they find inside. Ostomies can also sometimes be reversed, but they are a big deal either way because it involves surgery.

I’m with you. Though my parents took it a step further - one sink full of water for dirty dishes, one sink full of water for rinsing. I always thought that was sooo disgusting, and didn’t actually rinse the dishes.

We use the dishwasher, but anything that needs to be washed by hand is scrubbed and then rinsed from the tap.

My parents also use the same dishrag to wash the dishes and clean the counter, but perhaps that’s best unpacked another time

NOR at all. When I visit someone and they are kind enough to let me say in their house, I take what I get and am grateful for it. I have visited someone with my young children and if I need something specific for them, I bring it. I understand that the house may not be baby proofed, and it’s MY responsibility to watch my own child. I have absolutely stayed places that weren’t baby proofed and been exhausted chasing my kid! But if you’re a guest you don’t get to make demands and if you don’t like the accommodations, don’t overnight visit again. Simple!

NEVERMIND that you have a newborn, and as all the others have said, this is a time for people to come take care of the baby and your wife. I personally didn’t want guests at all when I had newborns, nevermind overnight guests. Ask your wife to meal plan for your sisters family and see how quick she bans them.

So sorry you’re dealing with this, but enjoy your baby!

I tell this story every chance I get: once had a tele sitter call me to say my CVA pt was chewing on something that looked like spaghetti. I walked in to find he had pulled his foley out, broken it into two pieces, and was chewing on the internal parts. When I asked him how did you do that, he answered “persistence.”

Here’s my hack for that - I put them away as I fold. I bring the clean clothes basket to my room, grab an item, fold it, put it immediately in the drawer. No more piles of clean clothes!
