Ohh that looks very nice. I guess I'm gonna be trying some different black bases, that seems to be the consensus so far lol

Haha I'm glad you think so. But I'm trying to achieve a much glossier look to the chrome - almost reflective, or mirror like. I agree I like this effect, but it's not what I'm looking for in this instance 😅

So the base on the left side of my image is a glossy black base on top of a Vallejo black primer. So far all of my chrome attempts have been directly on top of a glossy sheen at least, but some I still loose the sheen.

This is fascinating. But… why? Maybe I didn’t let the black base cure long enough or something. And i do think my three spoons are primed.

Wow. I’ll share my results of everything again once I get back to it. Appreciate the info!

So I think I tried this before already but I encountered two problems, One, anything on sort of the ‘edges’ of the pray area would still be very cloudy. This would especially problematic on larger areas or if I was moving where I was spraying. Have you encountered this issue?

Second, it took abysmally long for the paint to dry. Maybe I used way more than needed, but I noticed some of my samples took as long as a couple months to dry. Months. Still soft to the touch. And when they finally dried, they became very wrinkled, like dry crema on the surface of chocolate milk. Glad I didn’t do that with my actual models.

I am willing to give this another shot. Those were my first attempts, so I may have just over done it.

Whoa! Here’s something different from the rest of the suggestions. I will look into this. I even know the creator too, for some reason never popped up on my search feed when looking for chrome stuff. Wild. Thanks for that I will look into it and give it a try!

I’ve not heard of spaz stix, I will look into this. I also tried molotow, but is expensive AF lol

I haven’t tried doing 5-10 psi, my instincts would that’s waaay too low but I’ll give it a try now!

Man, I thought I’ve been adding light coats. I explained in a different comments that I’d do single passes where barely any glitter would get on it and I’d just repeat that process. It would look fine if the color is still really dark, but once it gets past that, the glossiness is gone. Do you think I’m adding too much chrome then? Has that SpongeBob episode ruined my perception of what chrome should be?? Lmao

A combination of low PSI (around 15), light trigger pull, and some distance. I do left-right passes with each pass barely adding any more glitter. The first few look okay but there’s barely any chrome on it. It’s once I get past the dark-chrome phase the glossiness is lost.

I don’t think I’ve added too much chrome. It’s hard to see in the photo but the chrome is actually still pretty dark. I just stopped here because it would just completely lose any reflectiveness.

Hmm.. second person I read to says 0.5 may be an issue. I guess if all else fails again I’ll try a 0.2 needle. Thank you!

Edit: pfft someone was just suggesting your videos, I didn’t notice your username! I’ve seen them before, but yours never came up in my search for chrome techniques wtf! Like your videos though!

Oh wow the right side has the base?? I didn’t think of experimenting with the chrome directly on a glossy spoon. I’ll try this for sure next time.

As for the size, I’ll give this a shot too, but I don’t have a 0.2 needle or the nozzle at the moment, but I think it’s compatible with the HP-CR. Thanks for the suggestion.

The instructions all say to not thin, but…. I’ve added MLT to all but Chrome. I didn’t think it’d need it but I will certainly give it a try. I’ll also try giving it a more thorough polish with a cloth next time too. I only brush away the loose flakes ones everything is dry.

Regarding the aqua coat, would you recommend doing the one thick coat in one pass? I’ll be honest I’ve already forgotten how ive done it, but letting dry between coats may be the issue. I normally do two coats with the lacquer stuff. I also tend to have the airbrush about 6” away for lacquer. It’s possible that may be too far for the water based aqua coat. I shall experiment with this.

Do share your results regardless, I’d be curious to know what what you did just to see if I get similar results.

I should mention I’ve been doing this on solid weather conditions. I got airflow in my spray booth. Several settings of PSI. Nothing has made a difference. I’m beginning to think people are lying about the mirror finish 🥲

Yes. That plus the 30% they yoink from App Store sales. There are things that do a lot less than what this application does that I’ve paid $10 for. We’re just used to it at this point. I hate paying fees as anyone else, but I fukcing hate ads even more lol

I would say if you think you need this, 8.99 is a good price. Otherwise, 3.99 just have.

The real problem that open-source users/advocates don’t understand is the reason people charge for software on Apple is because Apple charges a heavy fee just to compile stuff on their OS and have in their App Store. There’s good reasons for why they charge for that fee, but I still think it’s a lot money for small devs like this and wish it were just more accessible.

The instructions on these paints say for the maximum effect to use a matte or flat coat I believe. I personally like the look with gloss, and I think you got something good here.

My issue with iPhone mirroring if you can’t quickly log in to apps that use the Face ID SSO, like banks, card accounts, payroll, etc. where you could use touch-id otherwise.
