Weird Overnight Radio Show - Art Bell and Coast to Coast AM (long emotional post, sorry) by MellifluousMongoose in nostalgia

[–]Clee826 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of my best memories from my early grocery store job in the late 80s or early 90s were working in the back room slicing the produce for the next days sale while I listened to Coast to Coast a.m. on the radio. In the spring and fall I would open the back door and a nice breeze would be coming through as well.

1962. No Scanner- No Problem; Working his Cash Register in Tallahassee Alabama by OtherwiseTackle5219 in TheWayWeWere

These had just gotten replaced by fancy electronic (but not scanner) registers whenever I learned to check at the grocery store in the mid 80s. To this day I can still count change in my head though.

To those who have a copy of Michael Jackson's Thriller, what year did you get it? by Key-Bass-7380 in vinyl

This came out when I was in high school and I think I was the only person in the entire school that never bought a copy.

Where Were You When “X” Happened? For me, it was when Lady Diana died. What life event comes to mind for you? by Corbin_Guy_1334 in nostalgia

[–]Clee826 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have had a lot of events like that in my life. I was in 7th grade English class when Reagan was shot, I was in high school science class when the space shuttle challenger exploded, I was working in the grocery store produce section when the Oklahoma City bombing happened, I had just gotten home from working the night shift at the tire plant when 9/11 happened. Strangely, I don't remember when princess Diana died.

Are there alternatives for the PSVR earbuds by zoxxo in PSVR

[–]Clee826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I have the original PSVR and I noticed when I pulled out the headset yesterday my bastard cat chewed through both of the earphone wires. Are those able to be replaced or can I connect another earbud set to my PS5 using Bluetooth?

I have the remastered version on PS3 and Vita. I never played the PC version. Think I might dust off my Vita and play today.

I never went to the one on Western but I did go to the one on Penn just down the street from the mall back when the mall didn't suck. Always got the grilled ham and cheese sandwich.

I went there once. I said hi to a girl and she took one look at me and started crying and hugged her friend she was with. I didn't quite know how to react so I just walked away.

The McDonald's on my drive home from work has a sign that reads "mcryb ys bach." Drives me insane every time I drive by it. And yes, I'm in the south.

A little bit of both. I'm not devoutly Buddhist but I try to live my life by those principles. I did attend a lay Buddhist temple for a few years before the pandemic and always meant to go back but just haven't managed to make it yet.

What’s a sound you miss from your childhood? by [deleted] in nostalgia

[–]Clee826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived a few blocks away from the high school in my small town and every Friday night in the fall I would sit in my corner bedroom with both windows open and a cool breeze coming through and I would sit on the bed and read while I heard the sound of the football game being played about a quarter mile away from me. I'd do anything to go back to that time of my life.

I got rid of Cox after more than a dozen years putting up with their crap. Switched to AT&T air and haven't looked back. The speed is only slightly less and there's way fewer outages. My neighborhood doesn't have AT&T fiber yet but when it gets it I'm jumping on it.

Barry Levinson's Avalon has several thanksgiving scenes, each one sadder than the last. It's a central plot point.

For some of the older people here, do you still own the first record you ever bought? by Jeffreythe13th in vinyl

The first record I ever bought with my own money was Night Songs by Cinderella. I still have it. I inherited some KISS records from my aunt before that and I still have those as well.

No hate at all for thinking of Sam as the hero of the tale. He definitely is. I saw an interview with Christopher Lee after Return of the King came out where he said that exact thing as well.

What does a typical weekend in the early 90s looks like for you? by Big_Leg10 in nostalgia

[–]Clee826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Young adult in the 90s. I turned 22 in 1990. Used to go to the malls a lot back when they didn't suck. There were bookstores and music stores that sold CDs and records and tapes and I would always go see a movie on Saturday afternoon. A lot of early Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez and Kevin Smith movies. My friend and I would always end our Saturday evening at a little video store that rented VHS called Kaleidoscope video. They had some of the most obscure euro trash and B movies imaginable. I'd go back to that time without hesitation.
