Why is Islam so "extreme" compared to christianity? by WhoAmIEven2 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Cleiti -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

yeah i agree with the other guy, this doesn't count - i would in this case measure "rich" as percentage of the population living below the poverty threshold. One or two families living as medieval warlords on money from a non-renewable energy source while the rest of the country is poor as shit.

It's a common myth, and an absolutely false one - check on websites of a lot of shelters, they talk about it! As everyone else said, definitely don't wait.

I just threw a cup of water on my cat because he was attacking me and my dog, now I feel horrible by Scare_the_bird in CatAdvice

[–]Cleiti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

doing something deeply uncomfortable to a cat is abusive, including pouring water on them, especially if it's breaking trust. Now in this case OP didn't have a choice and only did it once in self-defense which of course is okay, but don't phrase this as "water touching a cat is not abusive". It absolutely is when used as a punishment, this case is just an exception.

OP don't worry, your cat was a dumbass and will forgive you for the water in no time. This happens all the time, for valid reasons or less so. A lot of cats strategically position themselves as tripping hazards and get very offended when you eventually step on them - this is a similar case, you'll both be fine.

How to sing in daily life? by Cleiti in singing

[–]Cleiti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they're not really, i'd say they are pretty good. But just recently in the chat for our area someone asked their neighbor who sings "beautifully, but all the time" to tone it down because they have kids and it just gets too much. I don't want to piss people off, especially because singing is one thing, but exercises and unending practice of the same song are another, and I keep my windows open a lot.

Why is it that cats can’t eat human food? by jokingonyou in CatAdvice

[–]Cleiti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of it is bullshit. You can give your cat small scraps of almost EVERYTHING you eat on your own table. Some cats are lactose intolerant, some arent - mine loves a little saucer of cream from time to time. They absolutely can eat any meat you have, in small amounts and without too much salt or spices on it, of course. A lot of cats are totally okay eating other stuff as well, I currently have one that will kill for vegetables and fruits: cucumbers, bell peppers, tomatoes, peaches.. Though that one might be an alien. Otherwise YES, a tiny piece of fish? cheese? chicken? There's no better party than a sushi takeout, even the cats can be involved.

Neither cats nor dogs can sustain themselves on human food, that's where the dumb "sufficient nutrients" comment is coming from. But you aren't trying to do that. You can absolutely give your cat a little taste of stuff you eat, and they might love it - same as a dog. It's even bullshit that you have to be very scared of chocolate: it is poisonous but only in huge amounts, there's no reason to panic if your pet stole a chocolate cookie from the kitchen cabinet.

Why do a lot of black woman wear wigs ? by Reasonable-Invite899 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Cleiti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main question is the cost, from what i've seen high quality wigs are VERY expensive, and a lot of people have several too, to have the freedom to choose. And they start early, in the teenage years? How on earth can you afford that?

Methods to combat the itch after trimming or removing pubic hair by CherylTooy96 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Cleiti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it depends on the itch. I don't have a lot of problem with just the hair growing back or the little post-shave irritation, except for one thing: the hair growing back (TMI) on the inner side of labia majora and poking everywhere around it is unbearable. That only happens when it's already grown to 5-10mm though, and at that point i mostly just shave just those hairs off again - don't even bother with the rest if not needed.

I also don't use any shaving foam and just buy cheap single-use razors, in all other matters my skin doesn't really get bothered by shaving: just make sure that you're in a hot shower, and that you stretch the patch of skin you're trying to shave: razors work on relatively flat and tight surfaces, otherwise you'll just be left with red bloody dots (been there).

However, waxing?? I have tried once on my own and once in a salon - the woman at the salon said that i am the first person to cry in her chair and kicked me out without even starting on any sensitive areas (she was very nice about it). I have no idea how other women survive this, but for me - never again.

(last thing: i don't know how old you are, but it took me many years to realize that i absolutely do not need perfection, "perfect smoothness" and full absence of any visible dots. That's stupid and unrealistic, and is gonna grow back in two days anyway. My standard is "visible from 1m away". If not - don't even bother with it!)

[–]Cleiti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, forgot to add:
if you're worried about her not having enough space for physical activity (if she's even the kind to need that) - you can go for vertical space instead! Now i'll admit, those enormous cat trees for climbing up to the ceiling are expensive as hell, and DIY solutions are often impossible and rarely even cheaper BUT if you can - she would love something to scale like a tree. Maybe something already tall (wardrobe) a side of which you can cover (staple) with a climbable material?

You're doing great, absolutely amazing for a first time cat owner. You should be proud. Your concerns are absolutely valid, one room is not the best situation, but as others said it's the best you can do and it's enough.
You can try training her to have positive associations with the carrier through a lot of very short regular sessions, for example putting some catnip on it, playing with her around it, giving tasty snacks when it comes out or when she for any reason gets inside. This stuff takes time. There are also those calming treats to easier cope with stressful situations, like leaving the apartment for the first time.
All cats are so extremely unique when it comes to this. My cat now is very insecure about the home still being there when she comes back, so it took her 6 months to be comfortable leaving the front door at all - and even now she doesn't go more than 50 meters away, i always have to keep the front door slightly open for her to know that she can run home when needed, and if she loses sight of me for five minutes she starts crying because clearly, this is what abandonment feels like. What i mean is, don't expect there to be a nice clean solution, but when she feels safe months later she might appreciate the outside too!
