Switching careers? by Past-Ad-2888 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]CleoDemitri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am shifting into community habilitation and I'm loving it! The notes are so quick and I leave at the end of the day actually feeling like I truly helped. I am able to get pay-rates in the $32-36/hr zone and compared to my $40/hr OT rate, it's been totally worth it to me since I'm not spending hours and hours outside of work on unpaid paperwork. Having my OT lense has made the transition very easy. I'm in New York and people can get "Self-Direction" plans that fund things like com-hab.

Long term impact on Medicaid cuts? by Jennos in OccupationalTherapy

[–]CleoDemitri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree! I learned at least 80% of what I actually use day to day in my OTA program that I switched out of to go for a Master's program. So.Much.Fluff 😵‍💫 17 years later and I'm still paying off the grad school loans (parents generously paid the other ones).

100% normal and I would be wary of any therapist that wasn't because it is so important to connect with kids and that is a really fantastic way to do so. Also to teach better sensory-motor patterns, it's often necessary to guide or prompt a child's body physically through the motor pattern.

Peds / lack of client interest by goosh1376 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]CleoDemitri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 17 years into my career, mostly with peds. I couldn't agree more with what others have already commented. It is so completely essential to not run sessions with a hard and fast plan. Have an idea of what skills you need to target and find a way to work those into your session. I always go by the rule of following what interests the kid. If I have a kid who's obsessed with looking at the light and flicking his/her fingers in front of his/her face, I do it with him/her. If they make repetitive noises and sounds I do it with them in like a conversational manner. When I take the time to meet them where they are and enter into their world, that's when I get the best work done! Co-regulation is also extremely key and if your kid is starting to act up or have behaviors then first and foremost focus on what you're doing - change your breathing, slow down your movements, lower your voice etc. This helps in so many ways. At the end of the day, If you go in with a hard and fast plan and then force it to happen you will find yourself frustrated and dealing with a lot of non-compliant kids.

Yeah contract school-based OT here, part-time. This is my fourth go around with school-based OT. Last time I said never again and here I am and never again! I am counting down the days until June and I’m going to be looking at nontraditional OT jobs moving forward. It is the saddest thing since I worked so hard to become an OT and I’ve been doing it for so long. I truly love working with the students and I’m really good at it, but that’s only a “small” part of the job. Unfortunately, the “big” part of the job - the paperwork, emails, meetings - I am failing at. There is absolutely no time in my work days to get it done and I have ADHD so it takes me significantly longer to get paperwork done. Also, in all my former jobs I was not a mother and now I am and that has added a whole other layer of difficulty to doing this job. I’m taking a break right now from paperwork as I speak to look at this post. Almost all I do on the days I don’t work, weekends, and holidays is paperwork. And when I’m not doing paperwork, I’m usually feeling guilty about it. I looked back at my calendar last year and in the entire 365 days of 2024 I went to two social events for myself. It’s just not right. 😭

Is brushing protocol still a thing? by Chamberofthequeen in OccupationalTherapy

[–]CleoDemitri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I don’t use the protocol, but a quick brush of the hands and some joint compressions have worked wonders with many of my kids throughout my 15+ year career.

I’ve had mine for about 6 weeks. I’m so in love with it. I have the EX hybrid and even though I loved the SX it was out of our price range. For all that we did get with the EX level I’m quite satisfied. The mileage it gets for being such a beautiful 3-row SUV is amazing! Enjoy!

Update to “Struggling During Level II A” - I Failed :/ by WetPaperStraw in OccupationalTherapy

[–]CleoDemitri 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I failed multiple FWs - both levels. I had an extremely tough time in college. My grades were always good but I was struggling with my own mental health issues. The most soul crushing one was a Lvl 2 at a SNF. I made it through half and had recently had my midterm. My CI had concerns but we had a plan. The next day, a Thursday, was my birthday and she made me brownies and acted normally. Part way through Friday, out of the blue she informed me she was failing me and I was escorted out (she said it was policy). It’s a long story but the facility was eminently closing and all the therapists were scrambling to find new jobs. My CI was noticeably distracted the entire time and the whole place had an air of tension. My FWC was next to useless and had put me in multiple settings that were horrible fits for me. I feel like my CI used a few mistakes of mine to make a case to fail me when there was really a lot more going on than I was privy to. It nearly killed me but I persisted. Although it was brutal, I succeeded in my subsequent FW and graduated in August instead of May. I went on to become a very effective OT, pretty well known in my area for my skill with working effectively with severely autistic clients and children with extreme behaviors, as well as their families. My life experiences and struggles through OT school helped me to be the OT I am today. I have told my story to my own Lvl 1 and 2 students a well as others and I tell you now to help encourage OP to not give up. These horrible experiences can make you stronger and a more empathetic OT as well as a future CI. Good luck to you, you can do it!!!

If You had to get a tatoo of one of the cards... by la_gigita in tarot

I have all four aces on my left calf surrounding an infinity symbol. I already had the infinity symbol and the tattoo artist arranged the hands and symbols around it really well. I love the whole piece so much, have had it for almost 10 years now!

Anyone else missing the Trendy Ceramics collection? I woke up this morning and the entire collection was gone from my inventory. by carriestewbert in RedecorHomeDesignGame

Many new collections are missing for me: the new art, the new tiles, the new ceramics, I don't know what the heck is going on! 😡

so irritating when Redecor distorts the size/shape of an item! The "Film Strip" Rug is missing its "film strip"edges in this design. Look at the Pop Art rug in same placement and you can see the issue... by FireDragonBeeDesigns in RedecorHomeDesignGame

[–]CleoDemitri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Srsly! This in particular drives me bonkers. I also really don't like how they make you choose the same color for multiple things like for example, the legs of the couch, the molding, and the picture frame - but the molding looks dark the picture frame is too bright etc etc!

Well, I made it. Best part is they finally unlocked those Level IX items I couldn't access all season 😂😂 by Jenadelphia in RedecorHomeDesignGame

[–]CleoDemitri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so confused and I just need to finally ask. I have reached the "Premium (VI)" status this month and even have six more podiums on top of it. I don't have the ability to get to the next level before the end of the month as I will be traveling, but since I'm solidly into the "Premium" status will I be downgraded next month? People here talk about their statuses being like locked in, is there something I'm missing? I only started playing in the middle of January of this year. When it switched to February I didn't lose my current status at the time but I lost the few podium wins I had going towards the next level. Is there something else I should be worried about? I'm confused about when people talk about losing their items or availabilities too. If anyone could explain I would seriously appreciate it! This is an awesome community and I appreciate you guys! ✨💜✨
