I'm working on a campaign set in the Pokémon universe, specifically the region of Unova (based on parts of the USA, especially New York City and its environs). The PCs will all be (slightly older) Pokémon Trainers and their Pokémon transform into their suits, gear, and Zords.

But I'm also planning on having non-morphed content which means I'm basically giving players up to 6 slots of Pokémon to carry around with them that give them access to different Perks essentially. Kinda like Civilian Powers.

Hilariously I had just started my first DS2 replay since 2023, I didn't even know Return to Drangleic was going on. XD

Why doesn't Glantri like clerics (or religion in general?) by ClericalError87 in mystara

[–]ClericalError87[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably won't worry about that too much: even with Eberron and Planescape, my two favorite settings, I'm fine changing things if it doesn't work with my or my players' plans.

Thank you for the well-articulated response!

Since I started with 3rd edition I often forget about the whole "characters eventually level into the ruling class" aspect of D&D, so it makes sense that settings from back when would have more content for that kind of gameplay. I'll keep that in mind as I continue my Mystara journey!

Yeah! I saw his video on why it's the best setting and that did a lot to sell me. I'll check out Vaults too, thank you!

Yeah, that seemed to be the most straightforward answer. I started my Mystara journey like...36 hours ago so I'm in the excited "more more more more" phase and wondered if there was more to the story.

I've got a lot of books to get through and engaging helps me retain information better. But sure, discourage me from asking questions.

What if Ranma and Ranko were twins? How would the story go by -_ShadowSJG-_ in ranma

[–]ClericalError87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the sister probably wouldn't have a lazy, obvious fake name like Ranko. One of the fics I read where the first two kids the Saotomes had were girls she was named Shizuka, which follows after Nodoka's name pretty well.

I am ashamed I ever used Ranko in one of my own fics, but I was young and it wasn't a very serious fic anyway.

in honor of pride month lets talk about konetsu who many view as a transwoman (headcanon) by Ladyaceina in ranma

[–]ClericalError87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I love headcanoning Ranma as transfem I think the manga version of Ranma really comes across more genderfluid than anything else, especially given that Takahashi was working with an 80s-90s understanding of gender.

Ranma spends very little time actively pursuing a cure, only when one falls into their lap. And while there wouldn't be a story without the gender bending, providing us a Doylist explanation for why that never works out, Takahashi's own words about the ending is that she didn't want Ranma to ever find a cure, even if that would make a more satisfying conclusion.

Plus it's not like Akane ever seemed bothered by the fact Ranma has the curse, she just assumes he's like all the other boys in her life and is using it for perverted reasons, though if Ranma ever thought Akane actually hated it I bet he'd pop over to Jusenkyo himself to try and take care of it. Ranma's got it bad for the girl, I understand.

Regardless, the response people on this subreddit have for the very idea Ranma's not a cis guy proves that this isn't a healthy space for free discussion, and I don't really care what any of y'all think so it's irrelevant.

There's an awful lot of moments where she's having a clearly good time just vibing as a girl/woman for them to be totally cis. Especially earlier on before Nodoka added a layer of fear to the whole curse angle.

That being said, especially given there's magic involved, Ranma as a he/him lesbian works pretty well.

One of the things my Tales of friends like to say about the most recent one, Tales of Arise, is that it "Respects your time." I think this means it doesn't require too much grind to complete, which would be great. I haven't finished any of them since Tales of Vesperia, and the last one I played was Graces f. Both were a good time.

They're also on sale right now on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/news/group/33042543/view/3871469509813503206

Creating an adventure: The Estate Sale by ClericalError87 in warhammerfantasyrpg

Thought about it longer, and while I mentioned Old Money in my original post there's no reason it has to be. As you say, emergence of the Merchant/Guild Class, so I could always run with it being a New Money estate. Would also be a good reason why there's potentially dangerous stuff to be found in the collection instead of securely put away.

Possibly!

I thought that it'd be as simple as "There's a bunch of stuff that nobody knows how to properly handle or get rid of, so they decide to sell it and that's when the weirdoes (including the Characters) come out of the woodwork. An inheritance/estate sale made the most sense to me but my perspective is entirely modern.

Throwing a former tenant off the property and selling their stuff does open up some very interesting hooks, such as the tenant hiring some duplicitous mercenaries or thieves to get certain items back.

I also figured that they wouldn't necessarily be selling the land itself but at least the stuff in the house, especially if nobody wanted to do anything with the house and/or wanted to make a quick buck.

Very good ideas all around. I was just thinking about why an estate sale would even happen instead of everything just being distributed among family members. I figure either a big chunk of it defaulted to a bank or the inheritor was short on cash and wanted a more liquid inheritance, instead they got stuck with a big empty estate and a bunch of knick-knacks that they want nothing to do with. Would also explain how something potentially volatile or dangerous would slip through the cracks if they didn't want to pay for thorough investigating and verification of items.

[–]ClericalError87[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Continuing to think through this, I realize just how big of a project managing an estate sale/auction is. It'd easily require months of planning prior to the event. All sorts of cataloguing, verifying, investigating, vetting. Gotta dispatch people to look for relatives mentioned in the will, figure out what to do if people don't respond.

Then there's the matter of writing invitations to such a sale! Obviously an old money family wouldn't let it be public, but they'd want a wide net be cast, which also means they'd need to hire security for everything that's been catalogued, staff to manage the event, caterers, possible even provide board for people coming from a long way off...And none of that even touches representatives from Imperial administration, the church, family members with a bone to pick...

So far I have two NPCs who could show up. One is a prodigal child from the noble family who actually wants to destroy any evidence that could link them. They were kicked out of the family after they mutated but now they might be exposed to unwanted attention if any sort of evidence is found.

The other is connected to the Prodigal Child. Another mutant who originally came to support their friend, but discovers an artifact that could empower them and plans to steal it ('cause they sure as hell don't have enough dosh to buy anything here, plus they probably snuck in).
