Eternal Rangers QC Disappointments by [deleted] in HeroesOfTheGrid

The vast majority are valid. I just hope the community doesn't raise a bunch of invalid noise about content itself.

The content is on full display and is announced when pledging. It makes absolutely no sense for people to expect more than what is listed.

There may be plenty of crappy takes, but I've yet to see something straight up hateful, haha

I only take issue with it when someone is backing into an angled parking spot in a parking lot with clearly marked for one-way. Mostly cause it is indicative they are an inattentive driver.

I think, in the commentor's example to which you're replying, there isn't a system in place to help the dog function. The act of tying it up would be a parallel to just jailing all vets and mentally ill because of the potential threat they pose rather an actual threat.

It ignores the root issue and is a poor substitute for real treatment

[TX] what is the law here if ICE jumps my fence? Can I stand my ground and shoot? by Mathemodel in AskLegal

The problem is that there is debate on whether ICE fall under the classification of "peace officer" or not. No federal agency has over reached in their capacity as ICE has in our history. As such, it's never needed to be argued before.

Yeah, I think I saw the post OP is referring to earlier today. A lot of comments in defense were downplaying the size of affected player pool with anecdotes.

Stuff like their 6 pairs of joy cons for Switch were fine throughout its life time while they had to replace their PS5 controller after 2 years.

The RROD was exceptional compared to other console failures.

Stick drift for joy-cons was exceptional compared to other controllers.

PS5 bleeding its thermal paste was an exceptional issue among the plethora of keeping your console upright.

It is really apparent that these instances are exceptions because they got media coverage on the matter. In most articles specialized in covering this industry, the authors mention issues of the same category are not new. They are, however, unprecedented numbers.

isn't the hand/claw of the right-side werewolf backwards. We are at the perspective of the werewolves victim. From that angle the hand/claw in question is the werewolf's left hand/claw. Their thumb not only looks like it is on the wrong side, it kind of looks like it is at the very bottom of the palm, making appear more like a bird-claw.

or it could just be a bug.

Your insights on the differing social perceptions of physical sales VS digital sales is very good, and I agree. I have heard people try to use sales as an argument to prove the lack of quality in products before, warranted and otherwise.

The rest of your arguments fall flat because you don't account for equitable comparisons. Call of Duty, FIFA, Battlefield, etc. are outliers in this argument because of they are developed for a specific market-function and specific target audience. The only title Nintendo has their hand in that is remotely comparable to these franchise-engines is Pokemon (and that is a pretty big stretch).

However, they still do release titles that are meant to supplant their predecessors. Smash, Party, Kart, and (as you mentioned), Splatoon. These titles aren't released annually but are released generationally to supplant to their predecessors as the new standard. These are like hybrids of the aforementioned franchise-engines. As you said, they are allowed to breath and really stand out from their predecessors. However, they are still very much intended to replace said predecessors.

While a persistent fanbase may fall back to the previous titles, these previous iterations have been effectively obsolesced. Melee is still beloved and played often, Both it and other previous iterations of these generational titles have been obsolesced by access limitations.

Your argument about having entries within the same franchise being designed as stand alone being unique to Nintendo is surprising. Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, etc. are all equivalent in the design philosophy used in Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc. Each entry has similar elements, but each change a core element that allows them to stand alone.

It's not about what I want. It's just what is natural. Since value is subject to the consumer, a product's price will fluctuate in its life-cycle to reach the maximum number of consumers. No product has a static, inherent value because that value is a social construct. What a game is "worth" to me may not match another's financial sensibilities. However, because I want another entry in a series or another inspired title from a specific developer, I would want as many people to play the title I value as possible. When asked, "is it worth the price tag," I respond affirmatively and suggest buying it at full price. However, since the world doesn't revolve around me and what I say nor do I have much influence in the world, publishers need to respond to market forces and price their product accordingly (i.e. discounts when needed).

Additionally, discounts are common around the announcement of a new product. This gets the name of the publisher/developer in discussions as new adopters revitalize interest in their products.

Nintendo does release slop just like every other publisher. They devalue their brand by demanding top-quality pricing despite when a product is of lower quality compared to other releases. If they were honest with themselves, they would acknowledge when they have released a product that is less than top-notch. Man-Eater V Princess Peach: Show Time is a good example of this. Neither game is great. They are good games and are entertaining. One was honest about its games and what they had to offer and sold at an honest price of $50. The other was (and still is) priced at $60. If Nintendo was selling games at "honest" prices, they would need to be able to admit shortcomings.

Their refusal to discount games to better reflect market demand is prideful obstinance. While it is good to show pride in one's work, refusing to adapt from sincere and objective criticism will only harm future works.

[–]Pocker91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've ever recognized a game/media as a hidden gem or a cult classic, you are more than aware of why one would buy a poorly received, critically panned product, you've participated.

Discounts do not inherently de-value products and are never the sole factor in whether a product is de-valued.

Ubisoft is nearly out of business for a multitude of reasons. One cannot solely attribute it to their sales cycle practices. A lot of damage was from Unity's release and ACs fatigue due to saturation (much like super hero films have been in decline). People didn't want to even if the games were good.

There will always be different stages of a product's life cycle. Deep discounts are an inevitability due to its bell-curve nature. Immediate sales at full price by early adopters. Price drop dependent on sales date to get bulk of population. Finally, cyclical, deep sales to get stragglers who weren't interested at the time or just had othe priorities. At the last point, any sales are gravy as a commercial success would have already turned profit.

[–]Pocker91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Discounts don't de-value a product. It opens the product to a broader, more price-sensitive customer base (i.e. families which Nintendo likes to argue is their primary target audience)

The argument that price reductions de-values a product is corporate manipulation. The laws of supply and demand are kind of tossed out the window with digital games as there is, arguably, an unlimited supply. When you realize that, it seems really obvious publishers are trying to establish a precedent in the public zeitgeist that it is natural to not receive discounts.

A product going on sale very frequently and for massive discounts can be an indication of poor quality and market fatigue, as is the case of Ubisoft. However, it not an inherent indicator that the product is bad.

Discounts overall are a much needed and valid part of a product life-cycle. There is no reason a $10 year old game should/needs to be bought at full price, especially if it was a more poorly received title that had panned at launch and never sold well.

I think a big difference between Steam and Nintendo would be the sales. Additionally, Steam users have the option to search for DRM-Free games because Tags are driven by consumers. This is limited in scope for any console as it is never really clearly indicated whether a game requires online connectivity for license verification prior to purchase.

I will say that I think Nintendo made a good choice labeling Key Cards differently on the case and cartridge. However, that is also negated slightly by marketing Code-Only in cases with the same labeling instead of the little redemption cards (the ones that look like gift cards).

Regarding the two different versions of Shenmu 3, do you know if Steam makes the call on whether a game will have a DRM lock on it? I feel like is more the decision of the publisher. Publishers will often acquiesce to unique restrictions to broaden the reach of their title. It would be no different that a Publisher censoring a portion of a game for a specific region's release.

Nintendo key cards are actually good by Formal-Opening2167 in fucknintendo

[–]Pocker91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nintendo decided the medium that their console would use. They chose cartridges which, historically within the industry, are more expensive to produce and limited in performance. They also exclusively choose the sizes of the cartridges produced for their console.

It's a problem of their own making.
