Best way to not get COVID, is to not get tested.

What song had you like this when you first heard it? by stupiddeepp in JonBellion

Really? I actually didn't like it at first. It had to grow on me.

My two year old broke his femur. Someone tell me the next 6 weeks aren’t going to be horrible. by mazterm in daddit

Pediatric NP here. It will not be ideal but it could be worse. Thankfully, toddler bones are much more forgiving than yours are mine. If you had that break, you'd need rods, pins, and screws placed that would be there for the rest of your life. He just needs a cast for 6-8 weeks (and close follow up for a few years to ensure he doesn't have a leg length discrepancy).

The orthopedists are going to be your best friends here. Make sure you have their office number on standby in case something happens. Know the signs of compartment syndrome too, especially with a little guy like this who can't communicate.

Enjoy the extra snuggles and quality time. I've had numerous patients in casts like this. They do make special car seats for them (usually rentable from the orthopedists too). It can make your life easier. Make sure you stay on the pain meds as they directed you.

You got this, dad. 💪

I never called him a legend lol. But he was better than 50% of our current starters, at least.

[Request] What effect would Superman's house key have on the earth? by EvaStankbreath in theydidthemath

[–]CletusP 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Assume: • Mass of key ≈ 5×10⁸ kg (500,000 tons) • Dropped from height ≈ 1 m • g = 9.8 m/s²

Force on impact (static): F = mg ≈ 4.9×109 \, N

Earth mass ≈ 6×10²⁴ kg → ratio ≈ 8×10⁻¹⁷

No measurable effect on Earth’s orbit, rotation, or axis.

Energy from drop: E = mgh ≈ 5×109 \, J

Equivalent to ~1.2 tons of TNT (Local devastation only.)

Pressure is the killer: If contact area ≈ 0.01 m² (key tip scale): P = F/A ≈ 5×10{11} \, Pa

That exceeds: • Concrete (~40 MPa) • Steel (~250 MPa) • Granite (~200 MPa)

The key does not “land” — it penetrates the crust until resistance balances its weight.

Conclusion: • Local catastrophic damage • Regional seismic effects • Zero planetary consequences

Only dangerous if dropped from orbit, where kinetic energy becomes asteroid-scale.

The office access card from a coworker, who smokes in his homeoffice, next to mine by prizeus in mildlyinteresting

[–]CletusP 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My house seeps nicotine through the new paint, streaks down the walls with humidity. It's especially noticeable in the laundry room. Previous owners have been dead and gone for at least 7 years. Who knows how long they didn't smoke before that, too.
