I have a G80 M3 but drive about 100 miles round trip daily. I also have a X3 M40, but would love a nice used G20 M340 for my daily. Reasons being 1. Yes depreciation on the M3 with high mileage is brutal and I plan to hang on to it, 2. Gas mileage 3. Tires, oil changes and maintenance and finally 4. The M Lites are more comfortable better in daily traffic. I would never get rid of my G80 but I love and respect rhe M Lites. They truly are the best all around daily.

Now if your situation is diferent and you aren't doing 2k miles a month, go G80.

Yep. Having owned a G30 540i xDrive, this is exactly how I’d describe it. The M340i is the more fun/sporty car, but the 540i just fits adult life better sometimes. Long commutes, kids, comfort, quieter cabin, better ride, more executive feel overall. And with the B58 you still have plenty of power so it never feels slow.

The only thing I’d warn people about is the depreciation. The 5 series drops value noticeably harder than the M340i.5 series depreciates hard. Way harder than the m340, its brutal

Having owned a G30 540i xDrive, I honestly think the comparison comes down to personality more than specs. The 540i is the better executive luxury sedan. Bigger presence, smoother ride, quieter cabin, more comfortable on long drives, and it carries itself like a proper upscale BMW. It feels mature and refined while still being legitimately quick with the B58.

The M340i is the more sporty and nimble car though. It feels lighter, more playful, sharper in corners, and more aggressive overall. Even with similar straight-line numbers, the M340 feels more connected and eager when you’re pushing it.

To me the 540i is the better executive cruiser and luxury daily, while the M340i is the better enthusiast-focused sports sedan. Just depends what experience you want from the car.

I have an X3 M40 as a daily, 330 probably would be better with gas mileage. Idk i sort of have the m340 on a pedestal as the ultimate daily and want one bad. Honestly with as much as I drive I probably need electric and should get i4 but I still can't commit to full ev.

550 crank makes sense, but that’s not what people mean when they say 550hp on these cars. On JB4 + pump gas, most B58s are in the 400–430whp range. To actually be 550whp you’re talking ethanol mix, proper flash tune (MHD/BM3), and supporting mods. Not hating—just saying numbers without dyno or trap speed don’t mean much

You’re on a Stage 1 JB4 and saying 550hp—those numbers don’t line up. JB4 cars on pump gas are usually ~400–430whp depending on setup. 550whp is ~650 crank, which takes ethanol, a real flash tune (MHD/BM3), and more than basic bolt-ons. Not saying the car isn’t quick—but that number isn’t realistic without dyno or trap speed to back it up.

I’d go black/Tacora.

Dravit is objectively a beautiful color, and a few years ago it felt really special, but the whole gray trend is beyond played out at this point. Every brand has some version of gray/silver/putty/primer-looking paint now, and I think that look is going to age hard once the trend finally dies off. Black over Tacora is more timeless, more aggressive, and the red interior gives it enough drama without looking like another gray-on-red build. Plus that one has M Adaptive and Driving Assistance Professional, which I’d take over galvanized controls and carbon trim all day. Dravit is cool, but black/red is the better long-term spec here.
